The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) plans to deploy 30 GW of offshore wind energy by 2030. 30 GW of offshore wind would provide enough power for 10 million homes.

The DOE’s plan, called the Offshore Wind Energy Strategy, is to meet President Biden’s goal to deploy 30 GW by 2030 and eventually 110 GW or more by 2050 and also achieve a carbon-free electricity sector by 2035.

U.S. made solar panels would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% a report finds. A Cornell Engineering study found that fully bringing back solar panel manufacturing to the U.S. by 2035 would cut emissions by 30% and energy consumption by 13%, compared to 2020 when the U.S. relied mostly on imports.

If the U.S.-focused manufacturing target is achieved by 2050, emissions would be further reduced by 33% and consumption by 17%, compared to 2020.

The U.S. is the second-largest greenhouse gas emissions producer in the world after China.

Recently released rules will drastically reduce the number of (EVs) that qualify for tax credits. The new rules aim to push EV manufacturers to move assembly and sourcing of materials away from China and to the U.S. and its allies.

The new rules go into effect on April 18. The rules would require a percentage of the minerals and components of EV car batteries to come from and be assembled in the United States or countries the U.S. has trade agreements with.

The critical mineral requirement percentage increases over time. For example, in 2030 the critical minerals minimum percent value requirement is 40% with the 2027 and later percentage being 80%. has already started warning buyers on its website that the cheapest Model 3, which has a car battery made in China, would no longer be eligible for the full credit.

Burger King, the fifth-largest fast food chain in the world, says it transitioned 31% of its North American field team fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) across 16 states, with a goal of 100% of EVs by 2030. The move is part of Burger King’s parent company, Restaurant Brand International’s, plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030. The field team acts as the first line of support for Burger King locations and drivers travel up to a total of tens of thousands of miles each month.

For the first time ever, renewable energy production surpassed coal generation in the U.S. electric power sector.

Renewable power generation includes energy produced from wind, solar, hydro, biomass, and geothermal. According to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), wind and solar’s combined generation increased from 12% in 2021 to 14% in 2022.

Hydropower, biomass, and geothermal energy stayed the same. Together they made up 8%. Meanwhile, coal-powered energy decreased from 23% in 2021 to 20% in 2022. The change is due to some coal plants retiring and other plants being used less.

🚛💡 Exciting news for the EV industry! WattLogic's CEO, Carl Kasalek, believes this initiative to prep highways for electric trucking is essential as demand for commercial EVs grow.

With the increasing demand for industrial and commercial electric vehicles, he stresses the importance of short-term infrastructure investments in preparing highways for electric trucking.

According to Carl, reports of critical charging stations in the Northeast are promising, but there's still so much to be done to keep up with the demand. He sees exceptional progress in California where Class 8 electric trucks are already on the road, but they urgently need more charging hubs.

Carl acknowledges that infrastructure planning takes time, but he's concerned about how long it's taking to implement these changes. As someone who understands that laying cable and putting large infrastructures in place isn't easy, he believes that we need to start taking action now rather than waiting for years until everything is ready.

Time is running out for the Oregon state $7,500 electric vehicle (EV) rebate.

The Clean Vehicle Rebate Program from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) offers a standard rebate of $2,500 off a new eligible vehicle with a battery capacity of 10 kWh or more or $1,500 off a new eligible vehicle with a battery capacity of less than 10 kWh.

Residents that meet income requirements may also be eligible for a Charge Ahead Rebate with an incentive amount of up to $5,000.

The DEQ says due to overwhelming demand and limited funding, rebates will be suspended as of May 1, 2023.

Any vehicles purchased or leased on or after May 1, 2023 will not be eligible for the rebate.

The program receives funds annually from the state’s Vehicle Privilege Tax and has $15.5 million available for rebates, which is expected to be depleted within the next few months.

Once funding is available again, officials will announce the program’s reopening.
