Happy Monday! How was your weekend?

I spent mine baking these cookies for the Oklahoma State Fair cookie contest under the supervision of this cookie jar chef! 🍪

We obtained him at one of the recent estate sales run by the ladies of Red Barn Market, and I hope he is lucky! 🍀

Now that my entries are submitted, we can devote more attention to the booth and prepping for the Outdoor Market this Saturday! We have a lot of cool new inventory to unpack, clean, and price.

Be sure to add this fun event to your calendar on Saturday, and stay tuned for photos of the items we plan to bring! 😊

Some of the vinyl records we had in our booth are going to be featured on a local radio program! 🎶

We had these listed on marketplace, and Michael, the host of the show, reached out and asked about purchasing them to air on his weekly program about funk music. How cool is that? 😎

Check out “Tonic: the Funky Groove Show” Friday nights on KGOU FM from 8-10pm and hear songs from our “Luke Cage” albums and other funky beats! See comments for link.

Our booth is smokin’ hot with this shelf of vintage Fire King and Pyrex we recently added! 🔥

The most noteworthy item on the shelf might be a grail item for Fire King collectors! It is the scarce Stuckey’s Coffee Club stacking mug! This is in wonderful condition with bright colors and no dishwasher fading!

We also have five adorable Fire King cola mugs in blue, lime green, and white! These cute little mugs stand a diminutive 4 inches and hold about 8 ounces. While they are labeled as cola mugs, we think they would make wonderful mugs for shakes and malts with built-in portion control! The condition is great on these and the colors are vibrant and like new!

Two other fun mugs are the shaving mug with the Esso (Exxon) tiger logo and the popular McDonald’s stacking mug!

The shelf also holds three Fire King milk glass refrigerator dishes complete with glass lids, as well as two vintage Pyrex casserole dishes!

Check out these striking anti-smoking posters put out by the American Cancer Society in 1969! 🚬

Smoking wasn't positively linked to cancer until 1964 and was actually promoted as healthy, believe it or not! 😲

Posters like these were used to change public perception. The stark black and white photos contrast the reality of smoking with the positive perceptions of smoking as “glamorous,” “debonair,” and “sophisticated.” The photos are fantastic and these posters are a wonderful piece of history that documents the beginning of a major culture shift.

Find this and much more at Mandevilla Memories, booth #5503/7669 in the south building, at Red Barn Market! Asking $50 each for “glamorous” and “debonair” and $40 for “sophisticated” plus OKC sales tax. Thanks for looking!

Did you know that it wasn’t until 1964 that smoking was officially linked to lung cancer? 🚬

Though medical researchers suspected that smoking caused cancer and had other detrimental effects on health in the 1950s, it took years to gather enough clear scientific evidence to definitely prove it 🔍

Prior to that, advertising from to***co companies showed doctors endorsing smoking and extolling its positive effects from weight reduction to soothing throat irritation 🍎

Given the popularity of smoking, it was going to take a lot of effort to sway public opinion and change the perception of smoking from healthy to carcinogenic, and these posters created by the American Cancer Society in 1969 were one of these efforts.

The stark black and white photos contrast the reality of smoking with the positive perceptions of smoking as “glamorous,” “debonair,” and “sophisticated.” The photos are fantastic and these posters are a wonderful piece of history that documents the beginning of a major culture shift.

We believe these are the original posters, not reproductions, based on the numbers in the lower right corner of each poster (see photos). The dimensions are also accurate and the paper is the correct weight and appropriately aged.

It seems like these posters have been framed for most of their lives. We put them in new frames because the glass was cracked on one of the original frames. Two of the posters are in great condition, but the “sophisticated” poster has a scratch in the word “sophisticated”. It is not terribly evident, but we discounted that poster due to the condition.

The posters measure about 11”x16” and the frames measure 12”x18”

These would look wonderful in a collection of smoking paraphernalia or maybe in a home bar!
