Time is running out to stock your fly boxes with the 1776 Minuteman Nymph before the $25 special officially ends.

The 1776 Minuteman Nymphs are all about striking contrast and a sleek profile to cut through the current:

The Colors: The Krystal Flash body gives it a brilliant, eye-catching profile in the water. Mixing and matching the bead, body, and ribbing (like a blue Krystal Flash body with a white wire rib and a red bead) perfectly captures the flag's colors while maintaining a tight nymph profile.

The Armor: The small wire ribbing not only contrasts beautifully against the Krystal Flash to give the nymph natural segmentation, but it also armors the fly. It makes it tough enough to bounce off the rocky bottoms of our local streams without getting chewed up, much like the rugged militiamen it's named after.

The Core: The White 8/0 thread keeps things clean and bright under the Krystal Flash, acting as a solid base to lock all those flashy materials down tight.

If you’ve ever wondered where the classic Leadwing Coachman gets its name, we have to rewind all the way back to 1820s England. The original "Coachman" was actually invented by a literal carriage driver—a fellow named Tom Bosworth, who drove the royal coaches for King George IV, King William IV, and Queen Victoria...

Don't Let Your Eyes Override Your Ears

When recording or mixing, modern software gives us endless visual data—we can see the EQ curves, the pitch correction, and the exact volume levels of every track. It is tempting to use our technical knowledge to make the screen look "correct."

Next time you are in the studio, try turning off the monitor or closing your eyes and just listening to the playback. Apply your knowledge by asking yourself: Does it sound right? Does the track have life? A mix might look completely wrong on paper, but if it translates the emotion of the song through the speakers, the application is perfect. Focus on capturing the vibe, not just the data.

Have you ever completely understood a
musical concept in your head, only to find your hands
simply won't cooperate when you pick up your
instrument?

It’s a common frustration, and it happens because
Knowledge and Application are two entirely
different skills.

Knowledge is the acquisition of information. It’s
understanding the roadmap: reading the notes,
memorizing the theory, or knowing exactly where your
fingers should go.

Application is the physical and mental ex*****on of
that knowledge in real-time. It’s having a conversation:
taking that memorized vocabulary and grammar, and
speaking it with the right accent, pacing, and emotion
to actually connect with someone."

Next time you sit down to practice, split your session
into two distinct phases. Spend the first 20% acquiring
Knowledge (learning a new scale, deciphering a tricky
rhythm, or reading a new piece of sheet music). Spend
the remaining 80% on Application (drilling that single
concept slowly, focusing on tone, hand tension, and
musical expression until it becomes second nature).

June Fly Offer

Leadwing Coachman Wet Fly
The Fishin' Musician's Tip: When fishing the classic Leadwing Coachman, one of the most effective tactics on NEPA waters is to swing it through the slower riffles just as a hatch begins to pop. Cast across and slightly downstream, mending your line to let the fly swing naturally under tension, which perfectly mimics an emerging Isonychia or caddis pupa fighting its way to the surface. To increase your strike rate try fishing it as an unweighted dropper beneath a heavier nymph or a buoyant dry fly to cover multiple water columns simultaneously. Adding a few subtle twitches to the line at the very end of the swing can frequently trigger aggressive, reactionary strikes from trout that have been cautiously trailing the fly across the current.

Knowledge vs. Application
There is a massive difference between knowing how to
do something and actually doing it. It’s the gap
between Knowledge and Application. Knowledge is the
acquisition of information—the roadmap, the theory,
the recipe. Application is the physical and mental
ex*****on of that knowledge in real-time. It’s the
difference between reading a blueprint and actually
swinging the hammer.

You can memorize the exact material list for a fly
pattern, but until your hands feel the proper tension of
the thread, it's just an idea. You can read every book
on canine agility, but until you're out on the course
reading your dog's subtle shifts in body language, it's
just theory. And you can stare at a piece of sheet
music until you know every pitch and rhythm, but
playing it so it speaks to an audience takes physical
ex*****on and emotional intent.

As musicians, handlers, and anglers, we often spend
too much time chasing new information and not
enough time refining our physical application. Knowing
a concept doesn't mean you own it yet. This month,
we are focusing on crossing that bridge. Stop trying to
"know" more, and let's start focusing on how to "do"
better.

Monthly Fly Offer: F-Fly

When it comes to dry flies, few patterns embody the
"less is more" philosophy quite like the F-Fly. It is a
deceptively simple pattern that not only catches picky
fish in gin-clear water but also completely
revolutionized the way tiers around the world use
materials.

The story of the F-Fly begins with Marjan Fratnik, a
highly respected Slovenian fly tier and angler born in
1919. Fratnik lived in Most na Soči, right at the
confluence of the legendary Soča and Idrijca rivers—
waters famous for their demanding currents and highly
selective trout and grayling... receive more fascinating

Is your instrument performing at its peak? Whether it’s a long-forgotten heirloom or your daily player, we provide the precision repair and "TLC" needed to ensure optimal playability.

Recent Project: Had this beautiful Left-Handed Fender Strat on the bench recently. After a full setup, a fresh set of strings, and sorting out a wonky tuning key, it's playing like a dream. This classic Strat is officially ready to wail on some classic rock.

Message us today to schedule your repair or setup.

Tech Tip: Taming the Wonky Tuning Key
There is nothing quite as frustrating as a guitar that refuses to stay in tune just as you're getting ready to wail.

The good news? A loose or slipping tuner usually isn't permanently broken; it just needs a little preventative TLC. Here is how you can keep your hardware tight and your tuning stable:

Snug the Button: Take a look at the very tip of the tuning button. You'll often find a small screw there. This doesn't just hold the button on; it actually adjusts the turning tension of the internal gears. Keep in mind that adjusting this tension is usually for vintage tuners or vintage-style tuning machines. If a key feels floppy or slips easily, giving that little screw a slight tightening turn is often the instant fix.

Check the Mounts: Turn your guitar over and look at the back of the headstock. The small mounting screws holding the tuning machines in place can slowly vibrate loose from hours of playing. Gently snug them down with a precision screwdriver. Word to the wise: These go directly into wood, so just make them snug—never over-tighten, or you'll strip the hole.

Mind the Nut: Sometimes a tuner gets the blame when the real culprit is a sticky nut. If you hear a "ping" sound when tuning and the pitch suddenly jumps, the string is binding in the nut slot. Next time you change your strings, color in the nut slots with a regular graphite pencil. The graphite acts as a dry lubricant and lets the string glide smoothly.

Take five minutes to check these spots during your next string change, and your guitar will reward you with rock-solid tuning!
