As I am working on Grandpa's shotgun in my slow time it is coming along slowly. On the left is a photo of the new firing pins, ready to be fitted. The right photo is of the first coat of finish on the stock. The firing pins will be fitted for length, rounded as needed and fitted with a rebound spring and a retention bushing. The stock will receive up to 20 coats of finish and polished. Then DeeDee will re-cut the checkering. See you next time, Dwight

Grandpa's shotgun. The top leaver was broken. This photo shows how I was able to weld it back together. I drilled a hole in this piece of aluminum for the pivot piece then tack welded and finish welded. It will take some finish work to make it look good. I have tried it in the shotgun and it works just like it is meant to.

I am currently working on a very special project. It is my Grandfathers 100 + year old Belgian side by side shotgun. There are many broken/damaged or missing parts. One of the first things that I am working on are the firing pins. Both were badly damaged and the holes through the breach block were greatly enlarged. The fix involves drilling the breach block threading the hole ant installing threaded plugs. Now I know you are wondering how the new holes are on center to strike the primer properly. The top picture shows the drill guide that I made to thread into the firing pin recess with the correct drill size in place. As the firing pins protrude through the breach block at an angle this is the way I solved the issue. The second picture shows the breach from the front side with the holes drilled. I will keep showing other repairs as I accomplish them. Including a complete set of hammers will have to be made from scratch.
