Lights down. Screen up. Phones away.

A screening room designed around a 115 inch Sony True RGB display, not squeezed around a television. One press on the Lutron keypad and the cove drops to a glow, the star ceiling comes up and the room goes quiet. Every cable, amplifier and switch lives in a rack behind the wall, labelled and cool.

This is what a movie night looks like when someone designed it.

A quiet kitchen with a lot going on.

A Josh Nano and a Lutron keypad, both flush, both small, both running the whole house. Say good morning and the shades lift, the lights warm up and the music starts in the kitchen. Or press it. Same result.

Smart, without looking like it is trying.

Autumn on the water, on a schedule.

Lutron shades drop together as the sun comes round, so the glare goes and the view stays. A Control4 T5 flush by the door carries the whole house, and Sonance in-ceiling speakers keep the music even from the kitchen to the far end of the great room.

The house keeps up with the day.

Small aperture. Full range.

That grille next to the downlight is a James Loudspeaker Small Aperture. A 3-inch full range speaker behind a small round grille, painted to match the ceiling so all you notice is the sound.

Hear everything. See nothing.

Snow outside. Fairway inside.

A converted barn near La Crosse with an Epson projector over the tee, a proper impact screen and a Wisconsin winter on the other side of the glass. The projector is ceiling mounted so your swing never shadows the picture. The lighting drops to a warm cove when the round starts.

Eighteen holes in January. Nobody has to know.

This is the whole reveal.

A Lutron Palladiom roller shade seen up close. No cassette, no cord, no chain. A slim architectural bracket you can just about find and a fabric roll that lands level every single time. The engineering is the point. The quiet is the reward.

Details you only notice when they are wrong.

Heat, light and sound on one panel.

A commercial studio built like a cinema. Recessed spots dimmed low, a warm cove wash on the brick, Sonance in-ceiling speakers flush in the grid so the sound arrives evenly down the whole room. One Q-SYS touch panel at the door holds the scenes: Warm Up, Flow, Cool Down, plus temperature and level.

The instructor presses once and teaches.

Fire on. Screen on. Nobody move.

A Sony BRAVIA set flush in the walnut above the stone, Sonance in the ceiling, and a Control4 Halo Touch on the arm of the sofa doing the rest. The room dims itself when the game starts.

The best seat in the house is the house.

Nothing on show. Everything on hand.

A lake house on the Mississippi backwater where the technology was designed with the architecture, not bolted on after. James Small Aperture speakers painted into the ceilings. Lutron Palladiom shades that meet the sun on a schedule. Sonance down the hallway so the music follows you to the stairs. A Control4 T5 flush in the plaster at every door.

You will not see the system. You will feel it every day.

Trimless. Painted out. Perfectly spaced.

Three Sonance in-ceiling speakers down the hallway, evenly spaced on the centreline so the music follows you from the bedroom to the stairs without a gap or a jump in level.

Whole home audio is a design job before it is an install job.
