Sundays have become my experiment days. In between repairs and customer instruments, I try and work one new process into the mix to keep things fresh. Today, it’s an H-5 style mandola back in curly maple. I’m pretty happy with the results! Now, to make a holder so I can carve the inside. Happy Sunday, friends and neighbors!

Startin’ the year off runnin’! Bridge and bridge plate replacement on a 60’s Gibson. The original Sherman of a bridge plate had separated from the top in front of the bridge due to the adjustable saddle posts and consequently deformed the top. With that big SOB out of the way, I could fashion a new bridge plate from proper stock, use fitted cauls to reform the top, and attach a new bridge with a drop-in saddle. Looks, sounds, and plays a sight better than it did! Here’s to 60 more years, old fella!
