Shoulder update:

I saw my surgeon this morning, and the repaired bicep has become detached. After talking through everything, we’ve decided not to go back in and reattach it.

The good news is that the rest of the shoulder repair looks good, and I am VERY happy that another surgery is not in my future! I’ll stay in the sling for another month and start physical therapy next week.

In the meantime, we’ll continue working to get our fields ready for planting our fall crops in October, and we’ll start planting seeds in the grow room next week. So while it may look a little quiet around Petaluma Gardens right now, there will be plenty happening behind the scenes as we get ready for the season ahead.

As always, feel free to reach out if you need honey, artisanal salts, or a Petaluma Gardens T-shirt. We’re still here! ❤️

Thank you so much for all of your thoughts, prayers, calls and messages. I truly appreciate every one of them!

One week post-op shoulder update…

From the outside, things look like they’re healing pretty well, and I’m praying everything on the inside is doing the same. ❤️

I did have a little scare Friday night. I was simply trying to break a pain pill in half using my left hand and just the fingers sticking out of the sling on my right hand. It was such a small, insignificant movement that it never crossed my mind that I could possibly hurt anything. But I felt something pop in my shoulder, and since then my pain has definitely increased after it had been getting better.

So, I’m going back to see my surgeon in the morning to make sure all those freshly repaired parts are still where he left them. 😬 Hopefully he tells me everything is fine, I scared myself, and to go home and continue behaving. That is absolutely the answer I’m praying for!

I’ve now spent one solid week mostly sitting in this recliner, and as expected, I am about to go stir crazy. 😂 I knew this recovery was going to require patience, and I was prepared for that. I’m just really hoping tomorrow’s news doesn’t mean starting that recovery clock all over again.

For now, I’m not going to assume the worst. I’ll find out tomorrow what’s going on and go from there. A little prayer for good news would certainly be appreciated. ❤️🙏

Petaluma Gardens is going to look a little different in 2027—and we’re already planning it now.

As we head into Year Four, Mike and I have been doing a lot of dreaming and planning about what we want the next season of Petaluma Gardens to look like.

One of the biggest changes is that we want to create more opportunities for you to actually experience the farm.

The two front fields you see from the road are getting a new purpose.

🌷 Field One will become our spring U-Pick flower field, filled with blooms from March through June. Instead of growing those flowers primarily for me to harvest, we want you to be able to wander through the rows, cut your own bouquet, take pictures, bring a friend or your family, and enjoy an afternoon on the farm.

🍓 Field Two will become our U-Pick strawberry field for March, April and May. We already have 1,800 strawberry plants ordered, so that part of the dream is officially becoming a reality!

I’ll still be growing flowers in the hoop house for special orders and for Harvest House, and we’ll still have freshly picked flowers and strawberries available for those who don’t have time—or simply don’t want—to pick their own.

But right now, I’m working on one of my favorite parts: choosing what we’re going to plant.

And I want your help.

Snapdragons are definitely staying. They’ve become a Petaluma favorite, and I can already picture rows and rows of them blooming next spring.

But what else would you love to walk through and pick?

🌸 What are your favorite spring flowers?

🎨 What color palettes would you love to see? Soft pinks, blush, peach and cream? Bright happy colors? Purples and blues? A little bit of everything?

🌷 What flowers would make you see a picture of the field and think, I have to go there?

And beyond the flowers, what would make a spring afternoon at Petaluma Gardens special enough that you’d want to bring your children, your mama, your girlfriends or someone you love and stay awhile?

We have plenty of our own ideas, but I really want to hear yours before I finish ordering seeds.

So help us plan Spring 2027.

Tell me your favorite flowers, your favorite colors, and what you’d love to experience when you come to Petaluma Gardens.

We’re dreaming now so that next spring, you can come Harvest Joy with us. 💗

Mike and I just want to say thank you. ❤️

We have some really wonderful neighbors and friends. Thank you to everyone who has brought by meals, desserts and little treats, and to those who have called or texted just to check on us. It has meant more than you know.

If I haven’t returned your call or text, please know I’ve seen them and I appreciate every one. I’ve spent most of the last few days sleeping and just haven’t been up and around much. Maybe tomorrow will be the day I turn the corner a little!

A special thank you to Lindsay for taking such good care of me today. Getting my dressing off and my hair washed made me feel a little more human again — and that was a very good feeling. ❤️

And to those of you who have stopped by the Harvest House to pick up flowers, a T-shirt or something else while I’ve been down — I see you. I know some of you are simply finding little ways to support us and Petaluma Gardens, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that.

There’s something really special about being reminded that people care. Mike and I are feeling very loved and very grateful.

Currently accepting prayers, naps, TV recommendations… and cat snuggles.

The nerve block has officially worn off, so today has been a little more uncomfortable than yesterday. They gave me IV steroids during surgery, and apparently my body decided to treat them like a pot of coffee. 😂 I’ve managed a grand total of about an hour of sleep since I got home yesterday, so I’m really hoping the pain medicine finally helps me get some much-needed rest.

To make things even more interesting, Mike is also under the weather so we’re currently living on opposite ends of the house. 😅 He’s getting the sleep, and I’m a little jealous.

Thankfully, Fitzgerald Grant (“Fitz”) has decided his new full-time job is being my recliner companion. He hasn’t complained once about the TV choices.

Since I’ll probably be spending a lot of time right here over the next few days, I need your recommendations.

What’s the best series or movie you’ve watched lately? I love a good rom-com, and I’m always down for a great documentary, but I’m open to just about anything, old or new.

What should Fitz and I start watching tonight?

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bradley family today. Mike and I had planned to be there to pay our respects to Mr. Ralph, but unfortunately we’re unable to attend. Please know our hearts are with our church family, Miss Sam, and everyone who loved him.

I only knew Mr. Ralph for a couple of years, but he made a lasting impact on my life. He took me under his wing and taught me some of the basics of floral design, and I’ll always be grateful for that. Even more than that, he showed me what it looks like to faithfully walk with Jesus. His kindness, humility, and genuine love for people were evident in everything he did.

He was deeply loved because he loved others so well. We will be praying for Miss Sam, the Bradley family, and all whose lives were touched by this remarkable man.

Thank you all so much for the prayers, texts, phone calls, and everyone who has stopped by to check on me. I truly appreciate every one of you. Your kindness and encouragement have meant so much.

Surgery went well this morning. They did both a nerve block and general anesthesia, so the nerve block is still doing its job and I haven't had any pain yet. They told me it should last about 12–18 hours, and after that the pain will probably pick up. I'm already taking a little pain medicine to stay ahead of it instead of waiting until it gets bad.

Evidently my arm had been keeping score. The doctor said it looked pretty "angry." I'm guessing those last two weekends of travel didn't help, even though I tried my best to baby it. But if I'm being honest, I wouldn't change a thing. I made some wonderful memories and got to spend time with some of my favorite people. Now it's time to slow down, heal, and let this arm catch up.

Thank you again for every prayer, message, call, and visit. I feel incredibly blessed to have such wonderful family and friends in my corner. ❤️

Picture is from this weekend. Lynne and I have been friends since we were about 10!

Bryan Adams is my favorite solo artist, and “When You Love Someone” has always been my favorite song of his.

He says when you love someone, you’d shoot the moon and put out the sun.

Me? I postponed bicep surgery so I wouldn’t miss his concert
