With the up coming Jigger Johnson Lumberjack Festival on Sunday on October 3rd in Gorham NH, I am happy to share the history and this short film of Jigger Johnson by Sam Norton.
Jigger as a US Forest Guard, worked with and was a friend of my grandparents Mildred and Alva Richardson. Jigger even had my mother Beth "Betty" called him "Grand Sir" when she was living in Beans Purchase NH from 1927 to early 30's in the Wild River Campground, where Betty was born. Mildred is the author and I am the Editor/co-author of Where the Wild River Flows: A US Forest Guards work and family life in the early years of the newly formed White Mountain National Forest from 1926 to 1937. Enjoy!

A celebrated American lumberjack struggles to survive and prosper in a changing national landscape.
