Just a little PSA for families visiting Black Rose Bookshop! 🖤
As our bookstore continues to grow, we’re making a few adjustments to help keep things running smoothly for everyone. Moving forward, we will be asking that all visitors under the age of 16 be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult while visiting our store.
As many of you know, Black Rose is, first and foremost, a bookstore that caters to adult readers. We carry a large selection of dark romance, horror, fantasy, and other books that explore mature themes. We understand that some teenagers enjoy reading above their age level and exploring more mature content, and we absolutely respect that every family has different boundaries when it comes to reading. We’re not here to decide what’s appropriate for your family.
We absolutely LOVE seeing younger readers discover their love of books, and we encourage you to bring your teens in! Walk around together, explore the different sections, and help them find books that you feel are a good fit for them. We also love seeing the moms who come in with their little ones, let them pick something from our treasure box, and take a little time to browse for themselves. We don’t want that to change! We simply want to be mindful of the environment we’ve created.
That means making sure parents are comfortable with the books and content their younger readers may encounter, while also making sure our adult customers continue to feel comfortable shopping in a space designed primarily for them.
And if your teenager is simply looking for a place to hang out, read, or spend some time surrounded by books, we actually have a wonderful public library right next door! It’s a great space for exactly that.
Our goal isn’t to exclude younger readers or tell anyone how to parent. It’s to find a balance that respects everyone who visits Black Rose. We want parents to feel comfortable bringing their children in, our adult readers to enjoy the atmosphere we’ve created, and our staff to be able to focus on helping customers rather than supervising unattended minors.
We appreciate your understanding and helping us maintain the space that makes Black Rose what it is. 🖤
