"Buy the coin, not the holder."

Thatโ€™s usually good advice for coins in third-party grading slabs. Most of the time, the holder is just plastic.

This one is the exception.

The coin itself is relatively common for the gradeโ€”about $100โ€“$150. The holder, however, is exceptionally rare and worth considerably more than the coin inside it.

Collectible markets are highly specialized and can change on a whim. Knowing the market matters. The wrong assumption can cost you, whether youโ€™re buying or selling.

If you have a slabbed coin and arenโ€™t sure whether the value is in the coin, the holder, or both, Iโ€™m happy to give you a straight answer.

Your collection. Your value.

A trusted coin dealer understands that the value of your coins belongs to youโ€”not to the person sitting across the table.

If you have a rare piece and arenโ€™t sure what itโ€™s worth, you should be able to trust someone to tell you the truth and pay you fairly for it.

Thatโ€™s the standard I hold myself to.

Itโ€™s your collection. Iโ€™m here to help you get the most out of it.

Unfortunately, statehood quarter collections arenโ€™t worth much.

Message me if youโ€™d like a straightforward conversation about what you have.

The Greater Jacksonville Coin Club meets on the second Monday of every month at the Elks Lodge at 1855 West Rd. We have a very active club of veteran collectors, dealers, young numismatists, and novices. There is really something to be gained for any level of collector. Club members often bring items to sell and trade with other members. We also have an exciting live auction at the end of each meeting that members may submit items or bid on listings. Guests are welcome to come experience a meeting without signing up. The next meeting will be September, 14th. In November the club will be hosting it's Fall three-day coin show with over 50 coin dealers.

Now buying: USA 1/2oz Silver Liberty Bell Medal

The USA's 250th celebration and the end of the circulating cent (not penny) has brought a lot of attention to US Mint coins this year. Most people will tell you that US Mint products are over priced and you can usually get them well below cost on the secondary market. There are some products that outperform and can bring significant premium over cost on the secondary market. Today the mint released what is probably the highest premium product ever in the liberty bell coins and medal. The 1 oz gold liberty bell coin was sold from the mint for $19,600. The 1/2oz gold liberty bell coin was sold for $10,500 and the 1/2oz silver medal (not even a coin) was sold for $750.

Currently the secondary market is strong for the 1/2oz silver medal but weak for the two gold coins. If you purchased any of these products from the mint in the hopes of making a quick flip then you would have gotten lucky to get the 1/2oz silver medal only.

I am offering a cash buyback on the 1/2oz silver medal and will provide options for those looking to get away from the gold coins.

If you have an interest in collecting coins and currency or maybe you have a collection left to you by a loved one but don't know where to start, then the Greater Jacksonville Coin Club is a great place to learn more. We have meetings on the second Monday of every month. Guests are welcome, but memberships are available for a very low fee that only goes to support the non-profit educational club. We also have a dedicated "Young Numismatist" program for kids of all ages.

The club also hosts the largest coin show in north Florida twice a year. These coin shows bring 50+ dealers from all over the country and you can get multiple opinions on buying or selling your coins.

The next meeting is May 11, at 7pm (630pm is the kids program, doors open at 530pm for member trading)
Elks Lodge 221
1855 West Road
Jacksonville, FL

The next coin show is May 28-30 at the Ramallah Club (more details to come)
