Things Found in Old Books, season thirteen , volume 21

Things found in old books is a weekly segment where we show you curious ephemera that we’ve discovered while processing used books. Today, Part two of finds saved for me by the Friends of the Fullerton Library: a questionable memory cure, a crocodile as an agent, and a 1962 sales pitch for the Salton Sea. You never know what’s going to fall out of an old book. We are a general used bookstore in Orange California. We opened the doors in 1990.

We’re delighted to welcome back artist Nina Handjeva-Weller to The Bookman! Her colorful, vibrant works are a joy to behold, and we’re happy to have her art brightening our walls once again.
Here’s a little about Nina, in her own words:
Nina Handjeva-Weller
BFA in printmaking from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada ( lord knows when🙈)
Not sure my other degrees are relevant to my art ( Applied Linguistics and other such topics)
Practiced as an artist in Canada ( Montreal and Victoria) and Japan ( Tokyo and Kyoto) Now here in Orange, California.
Inspired by people, creatures, and nature.
Goal is to offer some solace with the work .
Working with coloured crayons at the moment.
Drawings are based on photographs taken on my travels ( Different parts of Japan and the USA)
Previously I have worked in watercolours, acrylics, oil pastel and mixed media.

Things Found in Old Books, season thirteen , volume 20

Things found in old books is a weekly segment where we show you curious ephemera that we’ve discovered while processing used books. The Friends of the Fullerton Library have been saving things they find tucked inside donated books and passing them along to me.
This batch includes a mysterious kitchen photo, a homemade Father’s Day tie, Miranda Panda, an old Los Angeles postcard, and a 1966 university cheating scandal. We are a general used bookstore in Orange California. We opened the doors in 1990.

Last night, The Bookman rolled out the red carpet for the premiere of Read Me to Sleep, a short film shot right here in our bookstore!
We had a wonderful turnout, and it was a real treat to see The Bookman on the big screen. A big thank-you to everyone who came out and made the evening so special.
As soon as we have details on where and how you can watch the film, we’ll be sure to share them!
