June 19, 1954 In The Tasmanian Devil commonly referred to as Taz, an animated cartoon character featured in the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of cartoons made his first appearance in McKimson's Devil May Hare . Taz stalks Bugs Bunny, but due to his dimwittedness and inability to frame complete sentences, he serves as little more than a nuisance. Bugs eventually gets rid of him in the most logical way possible: matching him up with an equally insatiable Tasmanian She-Devil.

June 18 = National Cherry Tart Day

Interestingly, when researching whether the "date" had changed in 2026, I see several websites "celebrating" the Cherry Tart on June 16th, 17th & 18th. Now that is a lot of cherry desserts! Enjoy!

National Cherry Tart Day emerged from Michigan’s cherry industry dominance in the early 20th century, when the state began producing 75% of America’s cherry crop. Cherry tarts represent the perfect intersection of tradition and innovation—honoring our agricultural heritage while embracing modern dietary needs and social sharing.

While you celebrate this sweet and antioxidant-filled treat today, give a thanks to the man who helped make that flaky crust possible; John Lane of Illinois was the first to invent a plow that made breaking up the tough mid-western soil possible which made the region America’s breadbasket!

You can choose to “toast” this Illinoisan innovator with another helping of tart, or if you’d like something a little lower in carbs, the American Innovation coin for Illinois is still available in bags, rolls, and in the 2024 Innovation sets! https://bit.ly/4jyZMM0

Artist and die engraver Moritz Fürst, born in the Holy Roman Empire, came to America in late 1807 to work as an engraver. Between 1808 and 1840, when he returned to Europe, he created Congressional award medals for the War of 1812 as well as presidential portraits for 12 Indian Peace Medals. https://bit.ly/3sGTQsO

June 18 2014 An entirely new species of dinosaur, was discovered. The type species Mercuriceratops gemini was named and described by Michael Ryan, David Evans, Philip John Currie and Mark Loewen. The generic name combines the name of the Roman god Mercury, a reference to the similarity of the neck shield to the winged helmet of the messenger of the gods, with ~ceratops, "horn face", a usual suffix in ceratopian names. The specific name is that of the constellation Gemini, named after the twins Castor and Pollux, in reference to the similar specimens the species is based on.

On this day eight years ago, an entirely new species of dinosaur, Mercuriceratops gemini, was discovered!

A group of paleontologists including Dr. David Evans, with the Royal Ontario Museum, unearthed the horned herbivore that lived about 77 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period.

One of the skull fossils that led to this discovery was found in the badlands of Alberta.

The war would have mixed results for the US but helped Canada to better establish itself as a colony and fledgling nation. June 18, 741 On his father's death, Constantine V succeeded as sole emperor. He reigned as the Emperor of the Byzantine Empire from June 18 741 to September 14, 775

This gold Solidus portrays Constantine V, the emperor with a controversial legacy. While his military successes gained him favour, his heretical support for iconoclasm, the destruction of political or religious images or monuments, inspired mockery. http://ow.ly/1o7150wdHM0
