Summer is perfect for yes, sandy beaches, swimming, fishing, cook-outs, and making space in our schedules for reading! Priory Books and Gifts have shelves of books for all ages and all interests. Have you ever heard of a "Peal" accomplished by a group of bell ringers? May 15-17, this group of Bell ringers visited the Community of Jesus to ring a peal in this bell tower. They came from Boston, Nantucket, NYC, Washington DC and Raleigh. (There isn't a group name, because they aren't a certain group — they are just ringers who know each other from towers all over). There were 16 visitors in total, and they rang two successful peals, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.
In technical terms, a "peal" is when the bells are rung continuously in over 5000 different sequences, typically taking at least 3 hours (if 10 bells are participating). In layman's terms, that means the ringers are following mathematical patterns so that in every round of 10 bells rung, the bells are rung in a different order, with no duplications, so over 5,000 permutations of the order in which 10 bells can be struck. It takes a LOT of concentration, skill, and perseverance!
Even the ducks loved listening to the bells ringing out! 😊 There was a pair of ducks sitting in the grass listening....

You won't want to miss this exceptional organ concert on Sunday afternoon, May 10th, 3:30pm-5:00pm with Ken Cowan on the St. Cecilia Pipe Organ in the Church of the Transfiguration. This symphonic instrument is comprised of components from over 70 different E. M. Skinner organs enveloping 11,964 pipes restored by Nelson Barden Assoc. of Boston, that are placed in a unique surround-sound design.

This past weekend, McLean, who was at the August Weekend Invitational retreat at the Community, found the perfect gift for her new grand-daughter, This beautiful quilt was created by Sr. Angela who pours love and prayers into all the quilted creations. There are quilts for all ages plus handbags in different sizes, quilted potholders and bookmarks, original glass pieces from clocks to dishes to jewelry pieces, Essentia bath products, and a large selection of Bibles and books for all ages. Over 300 will be seated at tables on the Common area to enjoy wonderful food and Patriotic music with Gloriae Dei Cantores and orchestra. The guests have front-row seating at the harbor area to watch the fireworks after the festive dinner time.
