Call it "business su***de" or call it "taking a stance" but I've made a decision as we prepare to add internet sales to our business plan and I have learned much about algorithms, AI rewriting my words, and what feels like "predatory" advertising. We will not be focusing on SEO, posting frequently on social media, playing the algorithm games, tracking, sharing or selling your email addresses, etc. Instead, I'm choosing not to enter the predatory internet and social media business rat race to compete for internet sales. I'm choosing a peaceful and simple, more natural entry into online sales that protects your privacy and my sanity. A simple, natural and non-invasive approach. We are updating our website and will open a simple Etsy storefront very soon. We will continue to sell and deliver our candles locally to our very supportive customers and welcome those new customers who might happen to find us online as well. Have a great weekend!

Ever wondered where we source our pinecones for our candles?
We handpick them from forests around the state, like Nicatouis Lake & UMaine's Orono Campus! Each one is baked, cleaned, sealed with eco-friendly marine sealer, and carefully hooked by Sarah herself. Worth the time? Absolutely! Our nature-inspired candles are a labor of love.

Polluting Indoor Air
Don't blindly trust what you're told about candles. One often-cited 2014 study concluded that “under normal conditions of use, scented candles do not pose known health risks to the consumer,” and even that carcinogenic chemicals that were released by burning the candles, including benzene and formaldehyde, were still less than half the recommended limits set by the World Health Organization. That study was peer-reviewed, but it was carried out by scientists who had affiliations with candle manufacturers, including SCI Johnson & Son, and Procter & Gamble.

Let's talk pets! I just cleaned out a container that I use to catch wax drippings from my wax melter as I make our candles. As I was spooning the wax into my trash can, a small bit missed the trash can and landed on my kitchen floor. If you have a lab, (I have 4 of them) you know that despite how much you feed, nuture, cherish and spoil your lab, they ferociously jump on anything that resembles food much like a duck on a Junebug. Before I could bend over and pick it up off the floor, my youngest lab "hoovered it up"! With most candles, this would be cause for alarm and you'd be on the phone with poison control for pets. But not with ours!!! :) I was not at all concerned that Paige had just gobbled up a clump of candle wax. Ours are made of natural plant based soy candle wax, no preservatives, no chemicals, no dyes. Phew...no worries. Paige is napping after her snack.

As I watch and wait for the exact temperature to add this delicious cranberry orange fragrance oil to this morning's batch of candles, I want to share that our new jar sizes have new labels and as a result, the names of our candles need to be shortened. Cranberry Orange Marmalade no longer fits well on the new labels so we will simplify the name to Cranberry Chutney. Same great scent, but a new name. Chutney is "a savory fruit-based condiment". Call it what you wish! It's the same great cranberry orange jam, marmalade, preserve, or chutney we all love. Thanks for your continued support of our family small business. Launching on Etsy soon.
