I look at all the pictures of all those pretty new bookshops that are coming into existence. All clean, neat, and spacious.

Ah... Sweet Summer Child...

It won't belong until those books are cuddling against your feet and you are trying to find homes for them on the shelves ( whether they belong there it not) on the main floor. Or on the second or third floors ( which we do have, living quarters and guest bedrooms )

Bookseller's Musings....

Chris and I spent this morning putting up ephemera and books on eBay. It has been peaceful. Everysooften when doing the research for our items, we would come across information we would share with each other.

Chris has a Bill of Sale ? for a ship built turn of the century that was torpedoes during WWI. This was the second time this had happened for that poor captain. Imagine he felt like a Jonah of a sorts

I have been purchasing books on Archery over the last few months. The fellow seemed to like all editions of the earlier books so I have a number of facsimile. I was going to wait until my SCA events but not everyone goes to those so I decided to put the facsimile and other archery books. A little bit each month. I am having fun going through them. They give some information about the fellow that owned them. He was very interested in all aspects of archery :)

Bookseller's Musings....
While in WeBo, we used to get together in the morning and list books once a week or twice a week. It was very nice. Every so often in doing research on a book we were listing, we would discover some very interesting - least to us - information.

We stopped doing that or would do it sporadically once we moved to Cashtown. Usually because we needed to pick up books, price books, prep for events or shows, cull books put. We decided to make a concerted effort to get back into that at least twice a week.

Doing some Archery books now since shows have slowed down and discovered a publishing house that did facsimile of archery books from the 17 and 1800's. I and my customers have a weakness for facsimile so now to do some homework ....

Been beyond crazy the past few weeks. But have been getting work out. Here's a bit of a dump of recent projects :

Restoration of an 18th century Bible, including replacing the missing clasps. The customer had a jeweler make the parts. This was a challenge to try and get the old bosses off without breaking anything. Everything feel into place perfectly with this project.

Custom bound copy of a bird book, for the author

A Japanese Wrap-Box

A custom bound copy of an atlas, with marbled end papers, and 4 custom slipcases for holding pamphlets

And hinging the front cover of a specially bound book that wanted to stay as 100% original as possible. Quite a beauty.

Usually the Military Shop at 1229 Old Route 30 opens 1-5pm, but this week it will be open from 9am-5pm.

If you are in town for the Civil War Institute even, come out and visit the shop. Biggest and best selection of used / out of print / rare books on the Civil War and more.

Sad news for the Civil War community, Marc Ramsay has died. Big losses this year, first Roger...a dear friend who helped out Marc occasionally and then Chris and Mike at their shows. He was hoping to do more shows after a break. Will miss him....
