Happy 2 year anniversary to Poppy Wild Book Co.! 🎉💕
I started this business with an idea and a push from another small business friend (The Wellness Shop • Spa + Boutique • Orting WA thank you Alyssa!). I never thought it would grow to what it is today!
I’ve always been a creative person, but when I first saw the idea of wrapping books as “blind dates” there were lots of people already doing it, and I wanted to make sure I did something a little different. I wanted to add my own ideas, my own handmade items, and share books that might not be so mainstream. Plus I was inspired by my grandmothers - both incredible seamstresses, and one even made and sold book covers at swap meets for years.
I started with $200 and some gently loved & like new books, hand designed labels that I printed in sheets and cut individually. Crates my husband made me for book displays, thrifted tablecloths, donated fabrics and notions, and even a little investment from my family.
My first market I did nearly $1500 in sales and I cried on the way home. I couldn’t believe people liked what I made and that all my hard work had paid off.
I’ve grown so much since then, adding new products, learning new sewing techniques, working with new businesses and indie authors, and popping up at new locations. But my constant has always been that I’m here for the readers and book lovers!
Reading is a way for so many of us to settle our nervous systems, take time for ourselves, and just find joy! Reading is MY self-care, and I’m so grateful that so many of you have supported me by making space in your business for my products, invited me to markets and pop-ups, shopped, shared, recommended, and cheered me on.
