Did you know that we offer store credit for your gently used books?

Right now, I’m specifically looking for popular, in-demand books that customers are asking for and that I can put right back on the shelves for other readers to enjoy.

I’m looking for things like Kristin Hannah, The Boxcar Children, Little House on the Prairie, popular book club titles, Historical Fiction, Literary Fiction, current bestselling fiction, and other popular authors and series. Those are just a few examples!

I am not looking for mass market paperbacks at this time.

Books need to be in good, clean condition with no strong odors, water damage, or excessive writing or highlighting.

For books I’m able to take, store credit is 40% of the price I would sell the book for in the shop.

A quick note on how store credit works: you can use store credit toward up to 50% of your purchase. So, for example, if your purchase is $30, you can use up to $15 in store credit and pay the remaining $15.

If you have some popular used books you’re ready to part with and would like some store credit, bring them into River Stone and I’d be happy to take a look!

We’re getting close, and I would really love to fill the remaining spots for our Write a Novel in a Month experience!

Our kickoff is Sunday, August 30, so if writing a novel has been something you’ve always wanted to do, this is the time to jump in.

You do not need to have a finished idea, a chapter written, or any previous writing or publishing experience. You just need the desire to finally begin.

Throughout September, you’ll have guidance from Stephani Halleen Atkins, weekly in-person write-ins, Zoom check-ins, accountability, encouragement, and a small group of writers working toward the same goal.

The full program is $275. You can register and pay in full through our website.

A payment plan is also available with $150 down to reserve your spot and the remaining $125 due one week before class. Payment plans must be set up in person at River Stone Bookshop.

Enrollment is limited, and we still have room for a few more writers.

If you’re someone who likes to get a head start on Christmas shopping, this one is for you.

Think of it as one Christmas gift you can get taken care of now and not have to think about again later.

Christmas Mystery Book Box preorders are now open at River Stone Bookshop.

These are a little like our Blind Date with a Book idea, only taken a few steps further. You’ll choose the age range and genre, but the books and everything else inside will be a surprise. Each box will be put together here at River Stone specifically for the person you’re shopping for.

$25 Box
One surprise book, plus a few small bookish extras.

$50 Box
Two surprise books, plus a few bookish goodies.

$75 Box
Two to three surprise books, plus a larger mix of bookish gifts and extras.

$100 Box
Three surprise books, a candle, a small puzzle, a special cozy blanket being ordered specifically for these boxes, plus additional bookish extras and surprises.

We’ll have sign-up sheets here at the store with all the information I’ll need to put your box together, including age range, favorite genres, and other reading preferences.

All boxes are prepaid when ordered so I can begin ordering and preparing everything ahead of time.

Preorders and payment are due by Sunday, November 8. Limited quantities will be available, so early ordering is encouraged.

Christmas pickup details will be announced later, but preorders are officially open now.

We are open today from 1-5pm! And happy day late romance book day!! I have made some beautiful blind date books. All brand new books, too! Except children blind dates have a few used ones and I marked which ones those are. I hope to see you! It’s so beautiful out!

Just a quick heads-up that we’ll be closing early today (2pm) for a family wedding.

I had originally planned to have someone cover the store for me this afternoon, but unfortunately they had a family emergency come up and aren’t able to make it in.

I’m sorry for the last-minute change and appreciate your understanding! We’ll be back open tomorrow at 11 AM.

Tomorrow….august 15th!

There’s going to be so much going on at this event….food trucks, dirty sodas, arts and crafts vendors, a car show, and more. It’s supposed to be a beautiful day and just a really fun, family-friendly event with something for everyone.

More than anything, we would just love to see you! Come out, spend the day with us, stop by and say hi, and enjoy everything going on.

And I made my own Blind Date with a Book selections for the very first time, and I may have gotten a little carried away because I have about 100 of them! So there will definitely be plenty to choose from if you want to take a blind date home with you.

These three young adults (teenagers) make a point of supporting a small, independent bookstore when they could easily order their books from somewhere much bigger. Matthew orders every single one of his books through me, and he’s told me it’s because supporting an independent bookstore is important to him. I even heard the same thing from his mom when she happened to stop in one day.

I’m not sure I would have even thought about the importance of supporting small businesses when I was their age. The fact that these young adults already understand that where they choose to spend their money matters is pretty special.

Every book ordered from an independent bookstore and every decision to shop local really does make a big difference.

Just thought I’d share, because I think it’s important to share all the love and support that happens in a bookstore. I’m even thinking about writing essays about it because there is SO much good happening in here.

I am SO excited for our first Doe on the Go event! For all who don’t know what this is, it’s a huge shopping extravaganza for deer opening weekend in Wisconsin. More details soon!! Also, what would like to see at our bookstore? I will be all ready for your Christmas shopping. I have some fun ideas planned already. Trying to come up with unique things and budget friendly along with higher-priced. Anything you recommend?
