ORTOFON!

It’s been a long time but we are once again stocking the Ortofon Official 2m carts and styli! Including the black and 78 carts. In stock at both stores. These needles require turntables with proper adjustments for calibration, so be sure to do a little research before you pick one up. But they do SOUND GREAT. Made in Denmark!

Another Friday and another wall full of sick new jams and reissues!

ADAM’S PICKS:

When the master COLIN STETSON puts a new record out, it’s going to be the pick. Listeners with discerning taste will remember how great his last full-length was, and here he returns with a collaborative album alongside Scottish pipe player Brìghde Chaimbeul, ALL THE LIGHT IN THE WORLD. What better to pair with Stetson’s hypnotic sax performance and entrancing production than a brilliant layering of bagpipes? My brain wants to believe this is heavily layered modular synth and NOT human breath powered sounds. This is an album for active listening, but for those that are willing, it is a treasure.

There are a lot of great reissues but I gotta go with Man or Astro Man EXPERIMENT ZERO LP. Originally released in 1996 and their first record with Touch and Go, finally available again. For those that aren’t familiar (????) … insanely good SCI-FI surf/garage rock. Even if you’re not typically into surfy garagey stuff these records WILL grab you. All of the songs are very fun and high energy, and primarily instrumental throughout their entire catalog. Highest recommendations, and all of their records are difficult to find so don’t sleep on the chance to pick up one at a reasonable price.

As usual there is a lot of great NEW MUSIC today because artists are still writing great stuff, much to the dismay of those that can’t be bothered to find anything new.

Aenigmatum - Infinitude’s Passage. Exceptional death metal on 20 Buck Spin. The lazy way to explain this is that it’s very sick technical / progressive-ish death metal and RULES. The more eloquent way is from the label: “Cerebral without sacrificing physical impact, majestic without surrendering menace and progressive without loosening its vigorous command.” That sums it up exactly. Perfect production for this type of music with lots of exceptional guitar melodies to keep you engaged through intense riffage. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS.

Chat Pile - Who Loves the Sun. The new album from the Oklahoma noise rock group and might be my favorite LP they’ve released. I loved their collaborative record with Hayden Pedigo from last year, and this surpassed my expectations for their next dedicated full-length. Sludgy and crunchy with tons of atmosphere. I always thought this band was cool, but to me this is the record that really shows the height of potential.

1-800 Mikey - In Yun. Okay, so yes, one of these things is not like the other. Hear me out! The new LP on Goner records, we heard this while we were at the Goner store in Memphis during our road trip and really dug it. Garage pop with a heavy layer of fuzz and lots of melodic hooks. Listen up those whose tastes are more power pop/alternative punk stuff.

10 years ago today we opened our doors to the public and Eroding Winds Record Shop was born in a small building on South Main Street in Oshkosh.

After I spent my early adult life working in various facets of the music industry I decided in 2015 to get back to my roots and expand my online shop into a small record store. The early years were a challenge. The vinyl resurgence was still gaining momentum and we had a lot to learn about running a brick and mortar shop. There were tons of tough lessons and just as many mistakes, and we’re still learning and growing today.

In recent years the shops have managed to grow substantially and this has only been possible because of the support we’ve had from both the wonderful community of music lovers and record collectors, and the network of staff and friends. There’s no way this would’ve worked if I didn’t have brilliant folks behind me that believed in the shop mission, I owe them all immense thanks. The staff are the ones keeping the wheels on day to day while I have the gas pedal all the way down. We strive to be an asset for our communities and a wellspring of positive energy for those that feel this art is essential. Music is cosmically powerful. It is spiritual, and a fundamental part of being human. It is tied to our memories and becomes a part of our own personal history.

This is important work and we are honored to do it.

If you’ve ever bought something from the shops, sold us some records, or helped spread the word, thank you. A million times thank you. From me, our current and former staff members, and from the 17 year old kid I used to be that knew on his first day of work at the Exclusive Company that he wanted to do this s**t forever. I’ll do everything I can to keep it going until I’m not.

We will have a huge anniversary sale/party at both stores on October 24th, with a bunch of new T-shirt’s, goodie bags from local businesses and vendors (while supplies last), and deep discounts on all CDs and LPs in the store. Mark your calendar and stay tuned for the details on those.

You must not allow the external factors of life in this world to erode away the love you have for the things that bring you joy.

Not me going through all the security camera footage for four hours to see if Ed Sheeran stopped into the Oshkosh store Sunday when I was in Appleton.

UPDATE: No Ed sighting :(

Lots of great NEW music this weekend, so all Adam’s Picks are new jams because THERE IS GOOD NEW MUSIC despite what a bunch of boring people like to say on the internet.

Niveous - CULT OF THE VOID STAR
Exceptional BLACK METAL from Milwaukee. The album is heavy and nasty, and all the copies we have include the sick booklet with great artwork. Highly recommended! Plus, our ol Pal Nicholas Elert plays synths on the recording.

Regulator Watts - kWh
The 90s DC post-hardcore band returns for a comeback EP, recorded at Electrical Audio by Kurt Ballou. If that sentence isn’t enough to get you excited then I don’t know what else to tell you. Great stuff.

Paul Riedl - DEMYSTIFICATION // FORESTSCAPES
More great new age/space folk/cosmic ambient from “The Blood Incantation guy”, the blurb says “gentle, cinematic starscapes & pastoral acoustic environments.” and that seems about right. Required listening if you grabbed one of the WATER TAPE 2xLPs we released. More guitar going on here, which could be a nice change of pace for some listeners.

John Carpenter - CATHEDRAL
After a handful of Lost Themes and score work, here comes an original and complete piece that is intended to be a soundtrack to John Carpenter’s dreams, with a singular narrative tying it all together. Very cool stuff, a bit heavy sometimes with full on drums and guitar, and plenty of iconic Carpenter synth.
