This is a follow up post to one I had done previously. This is a R***r SA that came in needing quite a bit of work for accuracy’s sake. The factory crown was off, and while I didn’t get a picture of it, so was the forcing cone. Usually the forcing cone is cut concentric but in this case it was rather off. The trigger was adjusted to an extent. I’m not sure that many people want hair triggers on their .44 Magnums. The overall aesthetic of the revolver required a lot of touch up. It had been gone over extensively with a dremel tool and had lost most real edges. In the end with we fixed the majority of aesthetic issues within a margin for safety. The dremel user had gotten the frame rather thin in a few spots. It shoots very good now.

I wanted to make everyone aware that the FN Guardians are a proprietary product all around. Do not purchase one of you plan to upgrade it in the future. FN designed them as an easy to produce product. If you’re wondering what it is you’re looking at here this is their version of an AR-15 barrel with the same concept as that used on the Savage bolt rifles.

We’ve lost power here so I’m closing the shop a little early today. I realize that I haven’t had much time to upload cool pictures on here and so I’ll fix that now. This is an example of a closeup I use to examine my checkering on stock builds.

Not all 1911’s are built the same. The 2011 is one of the various double stack versions that exist. This Apollo was brought in for a multitude of upgrades. I will say the Icarus grip is fantastic in the hands. The new internals were all fit precisely for the intent of range work. The trigger is set at 2lbs.

Very often you’ll find that factory cut muzzle crowns are done poorly resulting in a loss of accuracy potential. This is a close up of a factory done crown that outwardly doesn’t look bad until it’s tested. In this image you can see the white mark indicating the crown isn’t concentric with the bore.

If you zoom in on this picture you’ll see the dremel marks up close. This is a PSA: please don’t use dremels on your fi****ms aka table mills, wiggle chisels, zippy tools or whatever you may know them as for polishing. Thank you

P.S. If you do, please avoid the parts that are for headspacing.

Sometimes I stare at the insides of intricate pieces on older fi****ms and wonder what the inventor was thinking. Parts like these have always fascinated me. This is the workings of a Lyman sight made for the Wi******er Low Wall .22 Short.

This is project had taken a considerable amount of my sanity and time! It started as a Steyr Mannlicher–Schönauer model 1950 all original. The customer wanted the double triggers removed and instead a single trigger in its place with a significantly reduced pull weight of 3lbs. The next feat was the scope mount(s). This originally came from the factory with a quick takedown claw mount that was affixed to the integral dovetail of the scope body. We designed and manufactured a pictanny rail with a matching dovetail that allows the user to maintain the original QD claw mounts while using most modern sighting systems. It also has an included MOA drop to help account for the height. The last part of this project was the side swing safety. This Steyr didn’t come with one so we had to design one from scratch as well. The cool part about these customizations was with the exception of the milled out hole in the side of the receiver to allow us to mount the side safety, all of the work is also reversible to allow the customer to change back to factory parts if he so chooses.

This was an interesting project from start to finish. Though it outwardly looks like a simple sporterized Ma**er, and it is a sporterized rifle, it has a few tricks up its sleeve. It started as a Carl Gustaf original target rifle model 96 and ended up as a very accurate modern hunting rifle. It’s maintained the original chambering of 6.5x55 and its barrel, though much shorter. It uses a quick release style scope system with a custom set of backup iron sights, which sit above muzzle devices. The trigger was custom and is set at 2.5lbs. The stock has a solid aluminum chassis and zero flex.
