🔮 Crystal Basics: The 4 Main "Job Descriptions" Every Beginner Needs in Their Toolkit
​When you're first starting out in your practice, the crystal world can feel overwhelming. You don't need every stone on the planet—you just need to cover your foundational bases.
​Here is a quick guide to the 4 essential energetic "jobs" you need covered, what stones do them best, and how to spot real quality.
​✨ 1. The Shield: Protection & Shadow Work (Obsidian & Black Banded Agate)
​The Job: You need a stone that acts as an energetic bodyguard to absorb negativity, shield your space, and keep you grounded during shadow work or spellwork.
​The Stones: Obsidian (pure volcanic glass, excellent for rapid protection and reflection) and Black Banded Agate (a slower, deeply grounding stone that builds a fortress of stability over time).
​What to look for: Look for the natural, unique layers! Real black banded agate will show gorgeous, distinct grey or white structural lines or "eyes" when held to the light. It shouldn't look like solid, dyed black plastic.
​✨ 2. The Battery: Vitality, Drive & Action (Banded Carnelian Agate)
​The Job: Need to fuel a manifestation spell, spark your creativity, or find the confidence to step into your power? You need fire energy.
​The Stone: Banded Carnelian Agate. It targets the sacral chakra to get stagnant energy moving.
​What to look for: Nature is a master artist. True carnelian agate shouldn't be a flat, solid orange. Look for those stunning, fiery swirls and ribbons of deep red, bright orange, and white bands swirling through the points.
​✨ 3. The Palette Cleanser: Resetting & Clearing (Satin Spar)
​The Job: Crystals absorb energy, meaning they need to be cleared. You also need a tool to sweep clean your altar, your tools, and your own aura.
​The Stone: Satin Spar (often labeled as Selenite). It acts like an energetic eraser and never needs to be cleared itself.

​I was recently brushing up on my crystal knowledge because I felt like I was forgetting some of the things I’ve learned over the years. I originally wanted to see if there were any nice Ocean Jasper pieces left on the market since it is being mined out; I wanted to ensure you all had a chance to own some before it's gone for good. We previously talked about how most "colorful ocean jasper" is actually polychrome, so I wanted to get some true Ocean Jasper in stock for you while I still could.

​However, my research led me to some brutal facts. Most of you know I’ve never been a fan of Ocean Jasper—I’ve always said it looks like "vomit" or "diarrhea". While I love other brown stones like Tiger’s Eye and Bronzite, my spirit has always rejected Ocean Jasper.

I’ve now realized my "yucky vibe" likely comes from its source: Madagascar.

This region is home to documented "rat-hole" mines where children as young as five are lowered into dangerous shafts to dig for stones.

​I first experienced this reality when handling a Pink Madagascar Quartz cluster. It made me physically ill; I felt like I was starving and overheated instantly. And the craziest part ws that I could actually hear children screaming in pain. I could feel this odd desperation to escape. I never took that piece into the shop. Instead, I kept it in my room surrounded by cleansing stones trying to heal that awful stone that I simply couldnt bring myself to sell. I researched it and thats when I learned the disturbing truth about Madagascars' mining norms. I eventually parted with it years later because someone wanted it. Only after explaining it's history to the buyer, did I agree to sell it.

​Why am I telling you this? Because of what I just found out this evening and knowing I had an order of OJ shipped a few days ago.

I cannot, with a clear conscience, sell any of you Ocean Jasper without letting you know what I just learned.

​There is a chance it might not even be true Ocean Jasper, and for the first time ever, I’m actually hoping it is just another Polychrome or Moss mix. That would be my preferred outcome.

However, if it is true Ocean Jasper, there is a chance it was unethically mined. Since this is not something I take lightly, I want you to have the facts so you can make an educated decision.

Honesty, transparency, and human rights are more important to me than any amount of money will ever be. This order will be the last time I purposefully buy Ocean Jasper.

If I cannot guarantee it was ethically mined—I will not carry it in my shop.

If this stops you from buying it from me, that's okay. I respect and back that opinion. 🥰
