A beloved alpine lake near Ouray could be coming back. Locals are rallying to restore Crystal Lake — a scenic spot cherished for generations and vital to the community. A new proposal could give the city control and bring the water, and the memories, back. Full story in the comments. ⬇️

For those of you have driven down the Million Dollar Highway from Silverton to Ouray or Ouray to Silverton, Crystal Lake (aka Crystal Reservoir) can be seen on the west side of the highway and has been enjoyed by folks from all over the world for decades. The lake was drained in 2024, a big hit for the City of Ouray and Ouray County for many reasons. It’s time to restore the reservoir!

Wow!

Late last night, a community member noticed their firearm was missing after giving a ride to a 17-year-old family acquaintance. Concerned it may have been stolen, they acted immediately—contacting law enforcement after returning home, just after 2 a.m.

Because of their timely and responsible reporting, officers were able to take swift action:
• Contacted the suspect
• Notified school staff out of an abundance of caution
• Coordinated with public safety partners
Although the teen was not an area student and no direct threats were made, our officers and school partners take every potential risk seriously. The suspect has since been arrested for the theft of the firearm.

This is what looks like:
• Timely community reporting
• Responsible gun ownership
• Secure storage and not leaving a gun in a car unattended
• Proactive law enforcement response
• Collaboration to protect our schools and youth

Together—one department, one community, one Durango—we prevent crime and protect each other. If you witness suspicious activity or believe a crime has occurred, don’t wait report it immediately.
