We are very excited to welcome Alexandra Ott to the store to sign her middle reader novel 𝘊𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘴: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘙𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘪𝘱𝘩𝘦𝘳 on Saturday, September 26th at 3pm! The story features secret codes, magical relics, and a neurodivergent protagonist on an adventure with her new friends, an encapsulating read for parents and kids (8-12y.o.) alike!

Description:

A group of code–busting friends races to find a powerful ring before their rivals can use it for dark magic.

Emma Avery has always loved solving puzzles and codes, and now that she’s processing a recent autism diagnosis and facing down seventh grade at a new school, they’re even more important to her.

Then Emma meets Nate Lin. He’s popular and funny and . . . loves codes, too. He introduces Emma to the Codebreakers, a group of his friends dedicated to cracking codes that have been discovered in the ruins of a nearby ghost town, which are believed to lead to magical objects. But they’re not the only ones on the hunt, and when their sinister rivals close in on an object that grants unlimited wishes, the Codebreakers must race to beat them to it before they use it for dark magic.

The Wish Ring Cipher is a fast-paced adventure brimming with magic and warmth that introduces a tenacious and endearing heroine on a quest to save the world―and to make some friends along the way.

We’re back with more September new releases the team is excited about! 📚

Starting off strong with a Mary rec, The Pirate Queen by Ariel Lawhon Ariel Lawhon.

“Ariel Lawhon transports the reader to sixteenth century Ireland and the life of Grace O’Malley. O’Malley was an indelible figure in Irish history portrayed flawlessly by Lawhon. Her life story was fascinating. Not only was she a fearless seafaring woman protecting her land and her family, O’Malley was a feared adversary of other leaders and their countries. I loved the division of the narrative and the insight into all periods of her life. Lawhon has once again brought an historical figure to life in the most perfect rendition.”

No doubt in her top books of the YEAR, Laramie recommends The Witches of Cambridge by Alice Hoffman Alice Hoffman. 🌙💫

It’s everything she loves about Alice Hoffman’s writing: a moody, atmospheric, character driven dark academia novel you’ll want to soak into your entire existence. It’s perfect for anyone looking for a witchy fall read!

New in romance this week! 💕

🏛️ See You Next Tuesday by Kate Stayman-London Kate Stayman-London

“This book was made in a lab for those of us who remember where they were when Josh Lyman and Donna Moss finally had their first kiss after seven seasons of The West Wing. Kate Stayman-London has delivered the perfect political RomCom that will have you giggling and twirling your hair all while experiencing hope for a better future. Cutting turf and call time have never been hotter (iykyk).” - Denton

🍂 Love Felt Like This by Julie Olivia Julie Olivia is a small town cozy romance about a brooding rock star and a cheerful children’s television producer who fake a collaboration and hide out together in a mountain town.

From NYT Bestselling author of Red Queen, Victoria Aveyard Victoria Aveyard, comes Tempest: A romantasy epic in which a fallen noblewoman faces off against her former love — the last great pirate captain — amid a brutal war for the high seas.

And we’ve got signed copies! 💙🌊

More new in romantasy!

Get ready for a September full of new release recs from the team! 📚

Swipe through to learn more about what Laramie, Denton and Georgia are excited about this week, plus a few extras hitting the shelves today.

One of Laramie’s most anticipated of the year, Knave and the Moon rounds out the Stonewater Kingdom duology by gothic fantasy author, Rachel Gillig (Rachel Gillig). 🌙🗡️

Expect higher stakes, darker mysteries and deeper longings. And we’ve got signed copies!

Laramie also recommends A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor by Kathryn Moon (Kathryn Moon) if you’re looking for a dark, spicy🌶️ paranormal romance.

And look at those gorgeous sprayed edges!❣️

Denton Williams recommends The Disappearers by 2015 Booker Prize Winner, Marlon James (Marlon James).

When a group of gay men put on a play in 1980s Jamaica, they are the victims of a horrific and violent attack. What follows is an expertly crafted novel about queerness throughout history, friendship, and revenge that is equal parts humorous and heartbreaking. The New York Times called The Disappearers “the novel of the decade, if not the century” for good reason.

72 Hours of You by Darianne Schramm (Darianne Schramm) is a young adult contemporary romance debut about a cynical teenage girl who sees a countdown clock over the heads of people who have only 72 hours left to live. ⏰❤️‍🩹

Georgia says you’ll love this one if you love sad but hopeful romances with a touch of magical realism. She stayed up late one night to finish it!

Also hitting the shelves today!

💙 Keegan’s October Book Club pick, Paper Ghosts by Sarah Addison Allen (Sarah Addison Allen).

🦾 Scion: John Wick meets Blade Runner in this fast-paced cyberpunk thriller by NYT bestselling author of The Will of the Many, James Islington (James Islington).
🍷 New in general fiction: The Three Graces of Pearl Street by Elizabeth Wellington Rollins (Elizabeth Wellington Rollins), an intergenerational story full of the complexities of family life.
⛸️ Sprayed edge editions of YA romance Fake Skating by Lynn Painter (lynn painter kirkle).

🚨 THERE IS GIANT HOLE IN THE WALL 🚨

This weekend, our crew made huge progress on merging the spaces, completing the framing of the hole joining the spaces together. Kate and Laramie have been waiting for a long time to swing those hammers!

Next up: flooring, lights, painting and final touches before we move in! Bear with us in the meantime, the store might be a bit noisier than usual and we’ve moved a few things around. The couch is taking a rest to make sure we can keep all the books out for browsing. The Fantasy section has moved to the back wall, cookbooks to where the couch was, and travel & activity are in the nature section at the front! We will remain open normal hours throughout construction and all books are accessible for you to enjoy. 🫶🏼

The delivery room decoded—by the internet’s favorite labor nurse.

Childbirth is one of life’s most powerful experiences—but it can also be overwhelming. The internet is full of conflicting advice, scary stories, and rigid expectations. Too often, expecting parents are told to create a perfect “birth plan,” only to feel defeated or afraid when things don’t go exactly as envisioned. That’s where Jen Hamilton comes in.

A labor and delivery nurse, ER veteran, and unexpected mom herself, Jen has been a steady presence at thousands of births—and on millions of screens. In Birth Vibes, she shares her own stories, all while guiding readers through what to expect in labor and delivery with humor and heart. Jen busts harmful myths, breaks down what really happens in the delivery room, and gives readers the tools to advocate for the care they want. Instead of rigid plans, she encourages parents to focus on their birth vibes—the feeling and environment they want to create—and provides helpful scripts and insider advice to help get there.

Birth Vibes is the ultimate companion for anyone preparing to give birth—or support someone who is. Warm, funny, and deeply grounded in real-life experience, this is the guide every parent deserves.
