Wild Hare Books is Sarah Almond and Nathan Sisco, two curious individuals with a love of great books and delicious wine who moved to Oxford, NC in January of 2021. They were immediately delighted by the town's hospitality and charm. The idea for Wild Hare was borne out of a love of the local community, and Sarah and Nathan's desire to bring folks together. The goal of Wild Hare is to be a true “th

ird place” that celebrates the transformative power of reading, language, and communication, as well as the joy of gathering to exchange ideas, anecdotes, and the tallest of tales. When we ask "What's your story?," we're sticking around to hear the answer.

Grab your because we are hosting a wine tasting inspired by the Odyssey! And this is NOT the watered-down stuff in a gourd you probably saw in the movie. We'll have six different wines from to try, all hailing from modern day Greece, Sicily, and multiple mediterranean islands. We'll also have bread to break with you, and snacks to share. Come quit with us, this Thursday, starting at 5pm.

Remember, friends: You don't have to go on an epic journey to find something to drink.

Saturday, August 1, Wild Hare Books is thrilled to present poets Arielle Hebert, Chelsea Krieg, and Liz Purvis for a reading and book signing in the Hatchery. Hebert’s debut book of poetry, Bottom Feeders, will be available, as will Krieg’s debut, Everything is Water.

is a q***r poet based in North Carolina with roots in Florida and Louisiana. Her debut poetry collection, Bottom Feeders, was a finalist for the St. Lawrence Book Award and was published by Black Lawrence Press in June 2026. Her poems have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net and have appeared in Southern Humanities Review, Poetry Daily, Best New Poets, The Greensboro Review, and many others.

is a poet, freelance journalist, and educator in North Carolina. Her debut poetry collection, Everything Is Water, won the Southern Poetry Breakthrough Series (Virginia) and is was published by Texas Review Press in 2026. Her poetry has appeared in Terrain.org, Fairy Tale Review, New South, Gulf Coast, The Southern Poetry Anthology (Issue IX Virginia), The Greensboro Review, Poet Lore, among others. She was runner-up for Hub City Press’s 2023 New Southern Voices Poetry Prize and a finalist for the New South 2021 Poetry Contest.

is a poet, editor, and organizer who received an M.F.A. in Poetry from North Carolina State University and a B.A. in Literature and Creative Writing from Elon University. Her work has appeared in Split Rock Review, Crab Orchard Review, 3Elements Review, The Collagist (now The Rupture), cahoodaloodaling, and others, and is forthcoming in The Potomac Review, Reed Magazine, Soundings East, and Hellbender Magazine. She lives, writes, and organizes in Oxford, NC.

We’re SCARY excited to host Oxford resident, district court judge, and local writer Katherine Burnette tomorrow night, to honor the fifth anniversary of her first novel’s publication! Come join us on 7/16 at 5:30pm as we celebrate in store—Katherine will be in attendance, books will be available, and the libations (and snacks) will be flowing. See you there!

It's already JULY! How did we get here?!?

The 4th is all about family, friends, and hot dogs, but the rest of the month is about BOOKS and family and friends...and wine, and coffee, and author events! Come join us this month as we highlight local authors and .z.pardue , plus well-known academic, author, and autism advocate .grandin .
