CRYSTAL CLEAR FISH FOOD FOR THOUGHT: WHAT WILL THEY REMEMBER?
Today, Nashville feels a little different.
Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80. And living here in Middle Tennessee, you realize Dolly wasn't simply a country music legend. She was woven into the fabric of this community and into the story of Tennessee.
But here's what I've been thinking about today.
For all the rhinestones, the records, the awards, the movies and the fame, when people talk about Dolly Parton now, they're also talking about what she gave away.
She gave children books.
She gave struggling families help.
She gave young artists opportunities.
She gave people laughter.
She gave us songs that somehow found words for feelings we couldn't always explain ourselves.
And maybe that's the real measure of a life.
Not simply, “What did I accomplish?”
But, “Who was better because I was here?”
We spend so much of our lives building careers, chasing goals and trying to get somewhere. There's nothing wrong with any of that. But eventually, the titles disappear. The applause stops. Someone else sits in the chair.
What remains is what we poured into people.
Dolly once sang about a coat made from scraps that became priceless because her mother's love was stitched into every piece. Maybe our lives aren't so different.
We're all stitching something together with the days God gives us.
So here's my Fish Food for Thought today:
If today became part of your legacy, what would it say about the way you loved, gave, encouraged and served?
Because perhaps the greatest legacy isn't how brightly your light shined.
It's how many other lights you helped ignite.
Rest well, Dolly.
Crystal Clear.
