This jewelry box made of figured walnut, cherry, and purple heart wood went home to its new owner a few days ago. I was asked by her son to make her this box as she battles cancer (for a second time) and he said that she would love a new and original piece from me because she tells him how much she loves my work. I developed this design with the cross-shaped handle just for her and named it 'Faith'. The cross handle is one obvious reason for that name, but the second is because of her ongoing fight.

Base is walnut, lid and floor is cherry, and cross handle and corner joinery splines are purple heart.

Throwing it back on this to my process for joining up my boxes. I use these these awesome strap clamps to make quick work of getting it all put together and making it square. With box making, everything being square is absolutely paramount, and nothing better than these strap clamps to ensure that happens!

Another watch box completed and heading home. Some final shots of one of the recent watch boxes I finished. Black with splines and dividing insert seems to be a popular combination. This slab had lots of sapwood to give it these light tones which looks nice and provides and even deeper contrast with the bubinga. And as always, it contains a nice black suede lining on the inside and recessed glass lid so you can see your collection. Enjoy!

Boxes are intimidating to make for many people because the smallest details matter so much and one misstep risks scrapping and entire product. One small detail i always make sure to do is a small 1/8 roundover on the top and bottom to take the edge off. It's a seemingly small step but makes a world of difference.
Also, I was asked on a recent post where I showed how I assemble my boxes, "but how do you put anything inside them?!". Well let me show ya. So here's a little lid resawing for ya too 🤘🏻

Miter splines are in on this black walnut watch box with a recessed glass lid. The splines are exotic bubinga wood imported from Central Africa and add a subdued contrast to the black walnut. This box is far from complete, but when it is done it will hold 10 watches which will be visible through the glass lid.
