About the Decoupage Artist...
Mariel wanted to return to a tradition of craftsmanship that was a joy to both the maker and the user. With her love of the old world and her desire to recreate artwork with the look of long ago, Mariel's award winning designs have mastered the mix of the old and the new. Incorporating several main elements of art into each piece, Mariel designs her artwork from her own collection of paintings, together with rare, vintage museum paintings. All are re-painted to get a desired multi-dimensional look. Layer upon layer of detailed pattern and color are hand applied to each glass object, with meticulous detail. This is a 12 stage process and a single piece could take up to 18 hours of labor to complete. Using a unique "image transfer" technique developed by Mariel, she has created a whole new dimension to her glass art objects. Crystalline particles are used in the coloring process which enhances and adds brillant color, creating an "antique gleaming finish", adding life to each piece of handmade art. Lamination during the baking process, makes all glassware functional. Mariel wanted her work to remind the viewer of "life beyond itself", and takes great pride in bringing her hierloom quality pieces to be cherished by generations to come.
