Fireside Books Alaska Make the World Give You Time to Read the Books You Love Both husband and wife were and are avid readers. It was the perfect location for a bookstore.

Way back in the later part of the 20th Century, David Cheezem and Melissa Behnke decided they wanted to open a bookstore. Melissa's mother Peggy helped grow the small Wasilla library, and she grew up in a family of readers. David had just completed his Masters in Fine Arts degree in creative writing, and felt that his fellow writers deserved a place where good writing was honored and celebrated. T

hey found the perfect location for a bookstore in Palmer -- the small agricultural town in Alaska with a rich history and cultural heritage. In 2001 David and Melissa discovered an empty storefront within a stone's throw of Vagabond Blues, their favorite Alaskan coffee-shop.

We are getting all set up for our Where's Waldo party today at 11:00am! Here is a sneak peek of (some) of the very cool prizes donated by our community partners. Prize drawing at 11:15am!

Have you been looking for Waldo all over Palmer? Would you like to celebrate your hard work? Bring your filled-out passport to our end-of-event party! If you find 10 Waldos, you win a poster and a coupon. If you find 20 (or more!) then you can be entered to win a prize!

The party will be on Saturday, August 1st from 11:00am-12:00pm, with the drawing taking place at 11:15am. Stop by and have some fun!

It's the first day of Find Waldo Local 2026!!! For the entire month of July, Waldo is hiding throughout 25 businesses in Palmer waiting for you to come find him. Take a tour around town, check out our local businesses, and have a lot of fun!

You can pick up a passport at any participating location or right here at the bookstore. Get your passport signed or stamped as you go. If you find 10 Waldos, bring your passport back to the bookstore for a poster and a $1 off coupon for any Waldo book. If you collect 20+ stamps, you are eligible to be entered to win the Waldo grand prize on our end-of-event part on Saturday, August 1st at 11:00am!
