🔧 TECH TUESDAY! 🚲

Good afternoon, everyone!!!

We're trying something new here at Sarpy County Bicycles! Welcome to our first Tech Tuesday, where we'll share helpful tips and information about basic bike maintenance.

If there's a particular issue or subject you'd like us to cover, drop it in the comments below! 👇 If a question is more complicated, we may recommend giving us a call or stopping by the shop so we can take a closer look.

🚲 DOES YOUR BIKE REALLY NEED A TUNE-UP?

One of the most common situations we see is a rider bringing in a bike that's been sitting over the winter—or sometimes for a year or more—and assuming it needs a full tune-up.

In most cases, it doesn't!

When a bike sits for an extended period, one of the most common things that happens is that the tires lose air. The butyl rubber tubes we're most familiar with naturally lose air over time. That's completely normal and doesn't necessarily mean there's anything wrong with the tubes or tires.

When you're ready to get back on the bike, we recommend:

✅ Carefully air up the tires to the recommended pressure.
✅ Take an easy ride around the neighborhood.
✅ Shift through all the gears and make sure everything is working smoothly.
✅ Test the brakes and make sure you have good braking power.
✅ Pay attention to anything that feels or sounds unusual.

If everything feels good, go ride! 🚲

If something doesn't feel right or isn't working properly, that's when we'd recommend bringing it in so we can take a look. In many cases, only minor adjustments are needed, and we can often take care of those for you while you wait.

And remember, if your bike has been sitting for several years, has visible rust or damage, or has a flat tire that won't hold air, it's always a good idea to have it inspected before riding.

Have a Tech Tuesday topic you'd like us to cover? Let us know in the comments! 👇

We’re so sorry, friends, but we’re going to have to postpone this evening's Combo Ride once again. 😔

We’re already seeing some spotty rain in the area, and unfortunately, the heat index around the time we would be riding is expected to be close to 100°. As much as we’ve been looking forward to getting out on this route with everyone, we always want our rides to be safe and, just as importantly, enjoyable.

We sincerely apologize for having to postpone this one again. We know it’s frustrating when plans keep getting pushed back, and believe us, we’re just as disappointed as you are. We’ve really been looking forward to leading a ride on this particular route, so we’re making it a priority to get it on the schedule as soon as we have some better weather.

We’re just going to have to wait a little longer for that perfect riding evening. 🚴‍♀️☀️

Thank you so much for your patience, understanding, and continued support. We truly appreciate you! ❤️

We’ll see you on the trails soon!

🌞 GOOD MORNING FRIENDS!!! 🚲

We have just a couple of scheduling announcements we'd like to share:

MOUNTAIN BIKE FUNDAMENTALS COURSE

Whether you're completely new to mountain biking or you've been riding for a while and would like to build a stronger foundation of basic skills, we'd love to have you join us!

We strongly believe that every mountain bike rider should know and regularly practice these core skills. Building a solid foundation can lead to safer, more confident, and more fun rides!

🚨 LABOR DAY HOURS 🚨

We will be CLOSED this Monday, September 7th, for Labor Day.

We'll be open this weekend, so please feel free to stop by if you need anything for your cycling needs. We'd love to see you!

Have a great weekend, everyone, and we'll see you on the trails! 🚲🤘

🚲 THANK YOU, COACH JENNI & COACH JOE! 🚲

A HUGE thank you to Coach Jenni and Coach Joe for bringing their NICA teams to our shop for a pop-up bike maintenance clinic last night!!!

With the heat still hanging around, the teams decided to bring the first hour of their practice indoors, and it was my pleasure to spend that time helping the student-athletes learn more about taking care of their bikes.

We covered a little bit of everything—from basic bike cleaning and maintenance to suspension service and everything in between. There were some great questions and some great conversations!

When it comes to cycling, teaching and coaching is one of my absolute favorite things to do. I love being able to share the knowledge I've gained over the years and help riders become more confident and self-sufficient with their bikes.

As we slowly transition into cooler weather, we'll be scheduling our ABC's of Bike Maintenance classes. Last night's pop-up clinic was a great test run and gave us a chance to work through the space and format for these upcoming classes.

Keep an eye out for the events we'll be posting this fall and winter. We'd love to see you in one of our classes! 🔧🚲

🏁🚲 CONGRATULATIONS, BRAYDEN, ON YOUR NEW RACE BUILD!!!

Brayden's race bike was already an impressive custom build featuring an aluminum frame, but he recently decided to take things to the next level with an upgrade to a Chase 1.2 carbon frame along with a new matching fork!

The build is still a work in progress, as he'll soon be adding a new wheelset to complete the overall colorway. In the meantime, the wheels from his previous build are performing just fine and keeping him out on the track and racing!

We can already see how much you're enjoying the performance and feel of that carbon frame! We can't wait to see the finished build once everything comes together.

Congratulations again, Brayden! Enjoy that new ride and keep on racing! 🏁🔥

🚵 A HUGE THANK YOU to our three amazing students, Alexis, Jason, and Chris!

Thank you all so much for joining us for our Mountain Bike Fundamental Skills Course! We had an incredible time working with you and hope you had just as much fun learning and practicing your new skills.

We host our Fundamental Mountain Bike 101 Skills Course once each month, and we're currently putting together our schedule of events for September—so keep an eye out for those announcements!

We're also excited to share that we're in the early planning stages of an Intermediate Mountain Bike 201 Skills Course! This class will be a natural progression from our beginner course, allowing riders to continue building on the skills and confidence they've already developed.

To participate in the intermediate-level course, riders will first need to complete our Fundamental Skills Course.

More details will be coming soon once we're ready to launch the new class!

Thank you again, Alexis, Jason, and Chris! We loved having you out there with us! 🚲🙌

🚴WE HAD TO POSTPONE THIS RIDE DUE TO THE HEAT... SO LET'S TRY IT AGAIN!

We're excited to give The Combo another shot on Sunday, September 6th!

📍 Meet: Sarpy County Bicycles
🕔 Roll Out: Between 5:15–5:30 PM
📏 Distance: Approximately 10 miles
🚲 Pace: Beginner-friendly

We'll start with one lap around the paved trail at Walnut Creek, then head south to ride the route we use for our Intro to Gravel Ride before making our way back to the shop.

All types of bikes and riders are welcome! However, if your bike has tires with a smooth tread, they may not be as efficient or comfortable on the gravel roads.

As with all of our group rides, helmets are required. Please remember to bring plenty of hydration for the ride. We also have complimentary bottles of water available at the shop, along with drink additives from LMNT and Skratch available for purchase.

Since we'll be riding on some gravel roads, a rear taillight is also recommended.

We'll finish the ride back at the shop, and we'll be happy to hang out for a little while afterward if anyone needs anything or just wants to talk bikes!

We hope you'll join us! 🚲
