Lately I’ve been changing.
Cleaning things up. Letting some things go and holding onto others.
I dug my old Kenner T-16 Skyhopper and X-wing out of a dusty basement box. Scratched decals, broken pieces, worn plastic and somehow the atmosphere is still there. I spent hours playing and having wonderful adventures with those ships as a kid. That kind of nostalgia hits in a quiet way.
I even thought about placing my brand-new N-1 from The Mandalorian instead. I know it is fancy beautiful but in that moment it started to represent everything I don’t like about modern collecting the pressure, the perfection, the endless upgrades.
Meanwhile the T-16 needed almost nothing. A bit of love, a simple stand, a few small touches… and boom suddenly the Skyhopper is flying again, cruising past the sail barge like it never left.
I realized that something broken, chipped, worn down… something that for most people would be just trash, can carry real weight. Because it reminds you of someone. Of a moment. Of a different version of yourself.
Funny thing is, in my head the T-16 always won. Luke looking at the twin suns, Beggar’s Canyon runs, shooting womp rats everything started there from the lonely farm boy dreaming of Galaxy far away. Long before upgrades, collector editions, or perfect shelves. Just imagination and a small ship in your hands.
Not everything has to be new, perfect, or sterile.
Somewhere along the way I started chasing that idea of perfection without even noticing.
And sometimes it’s enough to stop.
To look at what you already have.
To accept the scratches, the missing pieces, the history.
Because the things that lasted even imperfectly are often the ones that mattered the most.
