**** NEWS RELEASE / SEXUAL ASSAULT INVESTIGATION ****

On Sunday, June 21, 2026, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received a report of suspicious activity that had occurred the day before at a Town of Pacific campground.
The reporting party identified a potential victim of a sexual assault that had occurred the previous day at the campground. Deputies spoke with the adult victim, an employee of the campground, and learned that a male subject had entered a bathroom at the campground with the victim while they were cleaning and closed the door which had been propped open. The male stood in front of the door, preventing the victim from leaving, and made inappropriate sexual contact with the victim. The suspect was believed to be intoxicated when the incident occurred.
The male was identified as William Deppe, age 39, of Baraboo.
William Deppe was arrested by the Columbia County Sheriff's Office on June 21st.
He was subsequently charged by the Columbia County District Attorney's Office with the following:
- False imprisonment (felony)
- 4th degree sexual assault
William Deppe was on DOC supervision at the time of this incident and was also held on a probation hold.
On June 22, 2026, William Deppe made an initial appearance in Columbia County Circuit Court where he was given a $1,000 signature bond.
William Deppe has since been transferred to the Sauk County Jail and continues to be in custody on a probation hold.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Sauk County Sheriff's Office in this investigation.
