State House Votes to Put Hunter Safety Courses in Schools.

The Pennsylvania House just voted 180 to 22 in favor of legislation that would allow schools to offer voluntary Hunter-Trapper Education classes for students in grades 6 through 12. If approved by the Senate and signed into law, students who complete the course would satisfy Pennsylvania’s hunter education requirement needed to buy their first hunting license.

Pennsylvania wouldn’t be breaking new ground. States including Georgia, Colorado, Louisiana, Michigan, West Virginia, Illinois, Tennessee, and New Mexico already have similar school-based hunter education programs. The Keystone State also already has one of the nation’s largest National Archery in the Schools Program NASP programs, with more than 300 participating schools and over 60 competitive teams, proving that outdoor education already has a successful place in Pennsylvania classrooms.

Supporters say this is about giving interested students access to fi***rm safety, hunting ethics, wildlife conservation, and responsible outdoor education at a time when fewer kids are introduced to hunting by family members. The classes would be completely voluntary, and no fi***rms or am******on would be brought into schools during instruction.

Not your typical 5 Alarm Arms post… but one worth sharing.

Sometimes keeping the algorithm alive means talking about something bigger than business.

Across New York and the country, small towns are losing volunteer fire departments, ambulance services, and the dedicated men and women who answer the call—day or night—for their neighbors.

Here in Mexico and many of our surrounding communities, we’re incredibly fortunate to still have those volunteers answering the pager. They leave family dinners, birthdays, jobs, and warm beds to serve people they’ve often never met.

Strong communities aren’t built by chance—they’re built by people who step up.

Come out July 16th–18th to see these amazing people who have stepped into roles that take time, heart, training, and sacrifice.

They are our neighbors, friends, family, and community members who continue to show up when small towns need them most.

Stop down, say hello, support the Field Days, and thank a volunteer.
