An online course will not get you a Colorado permit. I want to save somebody the money.
State law requires your training to be in person — eight hours, with a live-fire qualification, from an instructor verified with your sheriff. There is no remote version and no video substitute. A certificate from an online provider is not worth the paper here.
People find that frustrating right up until they stand on the firing line. Getting your grip corrected in real time, by someone standing next to you, is not something a screen can do.
And the qualification is not there to fail you. My students pass at 96.8%. It exists to prove you can do it safely, one time, in front of a witness.

"I'm probably the least experienced person in the room."
I hear that at the start of almost every class, and the person saying it is almost never right.
A typical Saturday has someone who has never held a pistol sitting next to someone who has owned one for twenty years and never had a single lesson. Both of them learn something. Neither one gets embarrassed.
Here's the truth nobody says out loud: the fear of looking foolish in front of strangers keeps more good people untrained than cost or time ever has. That's the real barrier, and it's worth naming.
Nobody in my classroom is keeping score. I've been teaching since 1993 and I have seen every version of nervous there is.

Don't buy the gun yet.
Every single class, someone tells me they were about to spend $600 on a pistol. Usually one a guy at the counter recommended. Usually the wrong size for their hand, too heavy to carry all day, or a caliber they will flinch through and never practice with.
A gun that does not fit you does not get carried. It sits in a nightstand and makes you feel prepared, which is the most expensive thing a firearm can do.
So come on September 26 first. We cover firearm selection in class — what fits your hand, what you will actually carry, and what you will still be practicing with a year from now. Then go spend your money knowing exactly what you are buying and why.

People ask what a full day actually looks like. Here it is.
8:30 — coffee and donuts, and we get started. Classroom first: safe handling, the four rules, and Colorado carry law in plain English. That includes the parts that surprise people. "Make My Day" covers a dwelling. Not your driveway, not your garage, not your car. That one stops the room every time.
Late morning — firearm selection. What fits your hand, what you'll actually carry all day, and what you'll still be practicing with a year from now.
Afternoon — the range. Live-fire qualification, one at a time, at your pace. Nobody is rushed and nobody is standing around being watched.
Done by 5:00 with everything you need to apply for your permit.
