I decided to create a local artist residency - write and sketch in five different coffee shops this week.

It isn't just about coffee—it's about seeing familiar places differently and discovering new ones.

Forty years ago, I came here looking for bargains. Who knew this building would house the #1 coffee shop in the world?

I had to sit in Railyard Park and sketch the building before I entered.

This weekend, Bentonville/Rogers Sketchers gathered at Peel Museum & Botanical Garden.

Meeting new people, learning more about new friends, sharing sketching tips, and seeing the amazing artwork everyone created were all wonderful. But what truly made my heart sing—besides the red-tailed hawk serenade—was hearing people talk about the places we visit.

People told me they always wondered about Peel Museum or had worked across the street for years but had never visited. A few stopped by several days before our gathering to look for sketching ideas and were surprised by how extensive the gardens are.

Kim told me she returned to Hawkins House three times after we sketched at the Rogers Historical Museum a few months ago.

This is about more than creating art. It is about creating experiences, building friendships, and discovering new places in our own towns—all by slowing down for a couple of hours each month and really experiencing a space.

This is the art we created at Peel Saturday morning.

Join us next month on Saturday, August 15, at the Bentonville History Museum —the old train depot across from the library.

Just bought my ticket!

TWO WEEKS! Classic Shakespeare meets contemporary chaos - and YOU can help drive the mayhem!

How does it work?
1) Professional actors perform a fast-paced retelling of a classic work.
2) Audience members donate to cast their votes for wacky challenges to shake up the scene.
3) The actors re-attempt the scene using the audience's decisions on the spot. Chaos and laughs ensue.

Tickets are on sale now!

I’m rethinking cut flowers this year.

I’m open to buying annuals in bloom—enjoying them indoors, then planting them in the garden.

These dwarf zinnias (roots and all) from Matkins Flowers & Greenhouse in Bentonville were tucked into a low container for a book club gathering. Later, they’ll move into my garden.

Tip: Water the plants and let them drain. This makes the soil softer and easier to place, plus helps the plants last a few days inside.
