Been working on a big girl. This is theHMAS Canberra III carrier in 1/100 scale which makes this model about 7 feet long. It’s exciting to see how it’s coming together. The details are on the side, and the big news is the working elevator and hanger bay.

uss_wichita in 1/96 scale. This is for a customer that was onboard. This was the model I brought to the commissioning.

Homeport ModelShips visited the creator of RC submarines last weekend. I learned a lot about how subs work and how they dive. Learned a lot about the technology. Amazing amount of information.

⚓ A destroyer just ran patrol on a sailboat-only pond.

Redd's Pond in Marblehead has been strictly sail-only since the 1890s — home to the Marblehead Model Yacht Club and their engine-free Marblehead Class racers. So naturally, a few times a month I sneak in with my fully RC USS Thomas Hudner and let her run.

This is a scratch build, not a kit — 5 feet long, 8 months of research, plans, and stubbornness to get her right. The real USS Thomas Hudner (DDG-116) was commissioned in Boston in 2018 and named for a Medal of Honor recipient from the Korean War. My model's already patrolled New Hampshire and Maryland and covered most of the Boston area — her patrol zone is vast, just like the real ship's namesake motto.

The sailors don't seem to mind. 🌊
