✨ The Mod Podge Glitter Method
The Mod Podge method is one of the ways I apply glitter to a custom tumbler—and this is where that sparkle starts coming to life! 💖
1) Prep the tumbler. 🥤 The cup is cleaned, prepped, and usually painted in a base color that coordinates with the glitter. A matching base helps give better coverage and makes the glitter really pop.
2) Apply the Mod Podge. 🖌️ I brush on a thin, smooth, even coat of Mod Podge over the area being glittered. You don't want thick globs because those can create uneven spots.
3) Bring on the GLITTER! ✨ While the Mod Podge is still wet, I generously sprinkle glitter over the entire surface, rotating the tumbler as I go. And yes...this is approximately when my craft room becomes 87% glitter. 😂
4) Tap off the excess. Once everything is covered, I gently tap off the extra glitter and let the Mod Podge dry completely.
5) Check the coverage. 👀 After it's dry, I check for thin or patchy areas. Depending on the design and glitter, another thin coat of Mod Podge and glitter may be added.
6) Seal that sparkle. 🔒✨ Once the glitter is completely dry, it needs to be sealed before moving on. This helps keep glitter from shifting around during the next steps.
Then comes the magic. 😍
From there, the tumbler can move into the next stages of the design process—such as epoxy, decals, additional design elements, sanding, and finishing—until that rough glittery surface becomes beautifully smooth and glossy.
