Today, Christians around the world celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, a holy day honoring the Virgin Mary and her place within the Christian faith.

Throughout Europe and beyond, many Marian shrines that are home to revered Black Madonna images also hold special celebrations on or around this day. While August 15 is the Feast of the Assumption—not a universal Feast of the Black Madonna—the two are beautifully connected in many communities and traditions.

The Black Madonna has inspired devotion for centuries. To Christians, she is Mary, the mother of Jesus, honored through dark-skinned icons and statues found in churches and pilgrimage sites around the world.

Today we welcome Hazel Month in the Celtic Tree Calendar.

For centuries, the hazel tree has been associated with wisdom, inspiration, creativity, intuition, and sacred knowledge. In Celtic tradition, it is a reminder that true wisdom isn't found by speaking the loudest—it grows through observation, curiosity, experience, and a willingness to keep learning.
