The oldest writings which anyone has ever found claim that the hilltop was the location of an ominous dark water well on old settlers land. From there, stories tell of a large red brick building being built by a traveling gypsy caravan. They opened the Darkwell General Store but far more nefarious activities involving magic and mayhem were at play. At some point it converted to the Darkwell Theater with dancing girls and gunslingers known for miles around for the blue and green lights that danced in the windows. The gold mine ran alongside the hilltop in a deep ravine where the old delivery train used to climb the tracks. A small town developed around the train station secluding the giant red building to its hilltop. At this point, rumor has it that the building became quiet and was re-established as a museum. The papers read of a great disaster which included a train wreck, blazing fire, and a thunderous mine collapse which caused a powerful torrent of wind that destroyed nearly everything. Only the fortress of brick on the hilltop remained, everyone else met their Doom. For years, no one rebuilt around the Darkwell Museum hilltop for it was very well known to be haunted. They say something in that fire and calamity still calls out to other ancient evils, like a call between wild animals. The boxes, crates and artifacts that are still being delivered are far more than just haunted items. The building stands silent during the day. No one sees anyone going in and no one sees any one coming out. Except for the delivery trucks that arrive late at night up the old gravel road one would think the building was abandoned. A ghostly train horn still echoes at midnight in those haunted woods, according to locals, as the freight cargo of the darkest and most haunted relics from around the world are being delivered.
Claims have been made of seeing workmen dressed in the most odd attire moving between shadows behind the museum gates but no one can even confirm their existence. The haunted items which now overflow the building and the grounds are the key to opening a doorway through the veil between our world and the realms of Doom.
