Picture this... you're walking in Whitman Town Park having yourself a little day...

You're thirsty, maybe hungry... you walk a little further and stumble across Holmestead Harvest

Cute building, you look in the windows, seems adorable.

There's no sign but you soldier on into the little cafe

You're greeted by a cashier. She's reserved and kind, a blue streak of color in her hair. The walls are painted in a pretty pink and a deep green, the accents are feminine and bright.

You see many local names you recognize from peirogis and dumplings, to chicken and sausages.

You order a chicken salad croissant and a strawberry lemonade.

You're surprised by the massive behemoth of a sandwich infront of you and the crisp freshness of the parsley and notes of fresh lemon in the chicken salad. The lemonade is refreshing and the addition of strawberry offers a contrasting sweetness to the puckering lemon punch.

Life is good. You snap a picture and you post a review of the place because you're a pioneer of supporting local.

You want this cute little gem to succeed so you add it to your list of places to mindfully pop in and you spread the word.

I know I’ve been quiet. I’m still here, trying to get the mind just as quiet. Miss you all! 😘

It seems like every day I’m reading about another business closing…some local and some in other parts of the country. In all honesty, it’s a scary time being a business owner. Not only are we in the typical “summer slump”, this whole year has been a challenge with most of us small businesses seeing a decline in sales. If you have a favorite small business (non-chain restaurant, coffee shop/bakery, florist, salon, brewery, winery, gift shop, etc) get out there and support them…please don’t wait until they announce their closure, it will be too late. If everyone made a pledge to spend $10-$20 a month at a small business, it would make a big difference!

I love what I do. I’m sitting in my shop right now. I’m closed and I feel so defeated and drained.
I love this place. I do. It is my heart and my soul. It is my dream come true. But my God has it been a struggle. I worry all the time. About what I am doing wrong, about what more I could be doing, about parking for the shop, about product being fresh, about increasing prices, about whether I post enough on social media, about my parents’ health and so much more.
I’m mentally incapable right now of thinking of new ideas or marketing strategies. I’m here crying because thinking of throwing in the towel kills me but it is just so so hard.
I’m not asking for sympathy. I’m just being as transparent with you all as I have been since day one.
Hopefully it will pass and things will look up. If not then I think that I will give it 6 more months and call it quits. This economy is too hard. This location is not working as I thought. Something has to change.

Peeps, please note amended hours today: 11-4.
For the remainder of our time at 8 Main, we will be closed Sundays. I will post our updated hours for the coming week once I check inventory levels. Come see me today so I can give you a snuggle. Lots of good stuff still left in the shop! 😘

Hi friends,

Today was my first day back, lots of tears! And if you know me, that is a lot of eye makeup down the drain. Gotta laugh so I won’t cry!

My current plan is to be open as inventory dictates, which right now looks like Wednesday-Friday 11-6 and Saturdays 10-5. I have reopened the online store as well. If you can put up with my tears and self deprecating humor, I would love to see you. I still have a full shop, so come and help me go out in style. Thanks to all who’ve reached out, you all know how to make a girl feel special.

PS. If anyone is looking for a kick ass employee with a love of bad puns, lots of “that’s what she said” retorts, 20+ years of administrative experience, and other unique talents, I might know a girl. Said girl is also simply looking to work with good humans and to find joy in the every day. I heard the resume looks pretty good.
