As we celebrate our 250th Birthday, I thought it appropriate to share one of our own properties. We've all heard, "show us your John Hancock" or "put your John here". Well, we have an authentic John Hancock signature as Governor of Massachusetts in 1792. This document is probably one of the most highly preserved documents with his signature. Exceptional condition.

John Hancock was the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence. As the President of the Continental Congress, he signed the engrossed parchment in Philadelphia on August 2, 1776, centering his large, bold signature directly below the text.

The remaining 55 delegates who eventually signed the document did so afterward. Following the traditions of the time, they arranged their signatures by geographic location, starting on the right with the northernmost states and ending on the left with the southernmost states.

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE....

Steady customer walks in. Says he wants to sell a gold coin. Puts it on the tray and I pick it up. Immediately I felt something was not right. Put it in the XRF and comes up great, 24k. Throw it on the scale and it's slightly off. So.... we put it on the small Sigma and can't get it to come up. Throw it on the large Sigma, same results.

At this point client suspects something is up and we break the news.

We go to the safe and get a CML and both Sigma's are working properly. We are having a discussion with our client and after all testing, tell him it's definitely no good.

He gives us permission to cut it. I grind a small cut into the rim and sure enough it comes up base metal. I explain what it is and how it's made and he says, rip it open.

I saw a similar post somewhere not too long ago and never thought we'd get one here is South Carolina (small town like Mayberry) but sure enough, no one is immune.

This is one dangerous fake. Exercise extreme caution buying gold from anywhere unless they have proper testing equipment to rule out issues like this. If you're in doubt, we'll be happy to test your gold to set anyone's mind at ease.

Cases like this are rare but just be careful. We have 3 testing devices so we're always ahead of the curve on unscrupulous dealings.

Hope this helps everyone.

Very proud to show this rare and probably unique display honoring the signing of The Declaration of Independence. Shown here are genuine colonial currencies all dated 1776 from the 13 original colonies.

Included is a rare Paul Revere printed note for Massachusetts. The New Hampshire and Rhode Island issues are nearly impossible to find especially with the 1776 date in high grades as shown. This is an especially difficult set to assemble especially with high-quality examples as are shown here.

This may be on display at our showroom for a short period for all to view in person. We'll let you know if and when.

Thank you for looking and we do hope you enjoy the showing.
