Have you ever wondered why Christians call the Friday before Resurrection Sunday (Easter) "good" when what it symbolizes is the horrific torture and death of a man who never sinned against God?
We call it "good" because God Himself sacrificed His only Son, Jesus Christ in order that you, the reader of this message might have the opportunity to have faith in Him. To have faith or believe simply means to surrender the life that you live for yourself and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation. A true faith will mean that you now consider Him the Lord of your life. He died so that you would have salvation and He lived that you might live to be conformed to His likeness. He rose from the dead on the third day to show He was actually God in the flesh.
There is no good work or devotion that you can do to earn salvation. Not church attendance, baptism, giving of money, or sacrament will give you peace with God. He simply wants you to trust in Him and go from eternal perishing to eternal life!
1 Corinthians 1: 18-19
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written,
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”
