Some of the most fun boxes were get to open come from Terrapin Tile in Rogers City, MI! Every morning is a good morning if you’re drinking your coffee out of one of these mugs—I dare you not to smile! [video description: The shot pans across a batch of freshly-unpacked sgraffito pottery pieces, with lots of other colorful art visible behind. The pieces are etched with various designs of flowers, birds, butterflies, and bees (with a cat or two for good measure), and glazed in bright, cheerful colors. There are mugs, small trinket dishes, spoon rests, cases of various sizes and shapes, and a bowl carved with flowers with a rim that follows the shapes of the petals. Text reads: new Terrapin Tile!]

We went all in on brights for our new summer window display! The more color the better as we drag ourselves through this cloudy, chilly June and hope for warmer days in July! [video description: two shots panning around the window display of an art gallery. The first shot focuses on the paintings hanging on a wooden slat wall—they mostly feature bright, colorful flowers in different styles—realism, Impressionism, and folk-art-esque, but there is also a landscape of trees and rainbow shades of light, and a still life of red and yellow peaches and white flowers. The second shot is from outside the window, and shows small paintings on easels and other objects that sit in front of the display wall. There are colorful glass and ceramic dishes, jewelry, vases, and purses, and more landscape and still life paintings by various artists.]

I wanted to show you details on a few of the delightful pieces Kevin Barton dropped off last night! These are just a few of the new pieces—you can see them all in our previous collaboration post, or stop in the gallery to see our entire current selection of Bartons. [video description: shots panning across three framed oil paintings, showing details, and then backing away to reveal the full piece. They are all painted in a bright, impressionistic style with bold, sweeping brushstrokes emphasizing the shapes and movement of the scenes. The first shows a view of downtown Petoskey from the pier with water in the foreground and the town arrayed under swooping clouds with a shaft of sun striking the St Francis steeple. The next shows the Petoskey break wall in winter, ice and snow piled on the rocks and lighthouse. A parent and child walk down the walkway, and a fisher stands on the ice below. The final painting shows a red barn with silo behind curving rows of blooming lavender.]

“I do believe in an everyday sort of magic – the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we’re alone.”
Charles de Lint

Painting by Sue Davis and available at Somebody's Gallery

We loved all the tiny vessels Steve Vachon brought us last summer—and so did you! We asked for more, and Steve more than delivered. Just look at these exquisite little jewels! [video description: shots of a series of small ceramic vessels in shades of blue, green, and white, on display among other colorful glass and ceramic items in an art gallery. Among the featured pieces are shiny, green and blue, oval shaped vessels and round, footed dishes with embossed patterns; blue and white square boxes and pot-bellied vessels with crackly glazes and matte black, raku-fired lids; and domed, crackle-glazed pots with white ceramic birds on their lids.]

For all you lovers of Carrie Hensel birch trees, you must look at our current wall! It’s chock full of summer and fall beauty. [video description: a series of shots showing paintings with bold, graphic brushstrokes and vibrant colors. The featured paintings all show paper birch trees with their white and black trunks. Some foliage is the yellow-green of summer, and some brilliant fall oranges and yellows. Some paintings show the trunks close up, and some show a stand from farther away.]
