WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE JUNCTION

Hello, Peyton! 👋

Our names are Michael and Erika McCormick. We are the new owners of Peyton Junction and we are so excited to be a part of this community. We have two children that attend Peyton Elementary and Peyton Junior Senior High School. As we are transitioning into the role of the new owners of Peyton Junction, please enjoy the first of our monthly Junction Journal and feel free to reach out with any questions.

SEPTEMBER 4th
Peyton Homecoming – We would like to open our doors in support of the Peyton Panthers homecoming to allow for float decorating, snacks, drinks, music, and a meet and greet. This will not be our grand opening; this is a soft opening and an opportunity to meet us as owners and for us to be a part of and in support of our amazing community.

SEPTEMBER 14 ish
We would like to start hosting meetings with current/new vendors, merchants, bakers, and makers who may be interested in having a space in the Junction Mercantile.

From car & motorcycle shows and live music to vendor markets, fundraisers, line dancing, community gatherings, and more — we want Boots & Lace to be a place where the Peyton community and families come together.

“New owners plan to preserve the history of the familiar property while bringing events, local businesses and new community traditions to Peyton.”

Peyton Junction — A New Chapter

As the Peyton Junction Mercantile prepares to close its doors after more than a decade, the familiar property at Peyton Junction is preparing for a new chapter of its own.

The property has been purchased by Erika and Mike McCormick, who hope to preserve the character and history of Peyton Junction while creating new reasons for people to stop in, spend some time and be part of what makes Peyton special.

Both the Peyton Junction Mercantile and the former Lewis & Holmes building have been loved over the years, and each carries its own stories, memories and connection to the people who have passed through their doors.

“When we first looked at the property, we didn’t just see buildings and business space,” the McCormicks said. “We saw two places with history, character and stories that deserve to continue. We don’t want to replace what makes them special. We want to take care of them, give them new purpose and add some new stories along the way.”

The property will continue to be known as Peyton Junction, with several businesses and community-focused spaces calling it home.

The former Lewis & Holmes building will become Boots and Lace, a rustic community and event space envisioned as a place where people can gather, have fun and make memories throughout the year. Plans are still developing, but ideas include car and motorcycle shows, live music and line dancing, vendor events, fundraisers, community celebrations and other family-friendly activities.

“We can picture a summer evening with music playing, cars and motorcycles lined up outside, local vendors set up and families and neighbors just enjoying being together,” the McCormicks said. “We want there to be something happening that makes you want to stop by, see some familiar faces, meet some new ones and be part of it.”

The property will also become home to Wheelie Fast Mobility, Mike’s local mobility business providing service, repair and support for wheelchairs, power chairs, scooters, vehicle lifts, ramps and other mobility equipment.

Plans for the former Mercantile space are still taking shape, but the hope is for local vendors, makers and small businesses to continue having a place in the next chapter of Peyton Junction.

For the McCormicks, the vision is about more than simply filling buildings with businesses or putting events on a calendar.

“We want Peyton Junction to be the kind of place where you might come for a car show, support a local vendor, bring the family to an event, meet your neighbors or just stop by to see what’s happening,” they said. “Peyton has a strong sense of community, and that’s something we really value. We hope Peyton Junction can build on that and become a place people look forward to visiting.”

They also hope the people who visit Peyton Junction will play a part in shaping what happens there in the years ahead.

“We have plenty of ideas, but we don’t want all of the ideas to come from us,” the McCormicks said. “We want to hear what people would enjoy seeing here. Some of the best traditions may be things we haven’t even thought of yet.”

That new beginning also comes with a great deal of appreciation for the people who have cared for these buildings and made them part of the community over the years.

As the Mercantile prepares to close, the McCormicks especially want to recognize Shirley, Desiree, Monica, the vendors and everyone else who has been part of its story.

“Shirley has put so many years into the Mercantile, and we have a tremendous amount of respect for what she and others have created there,” they said. “The same is true of Lewis & Holmes and the people whose memories are tied to that building. We aren’t starting with a blank slate. These buildings already have beautiful stories. We’re fortunate to become their caretakers for the next chapter.”

With the Peyton Junction Mercantile scheduled to close August 29, a new chapter at Peyton Junction is just beginning.

There is plenty of work ahead, and more details will be shared along the way. But the vision is simple: honor the history, preserve the character and create new reasons for people to come together, have fun and make memories at Peyton Junction.

And, for now, the sign hanging in the Mercantile window may say it best:

“Something New is Coming Soon!”
