I’m super lucky that my youngest little (now a big!) is a full fledged animator! Their cohort (knottastudio 🪢 ) created this short for m.a.b.e.l, and I absolutely love how it captures my work.
This piece was a long time in the making (maybe as long as it takes to make a quilt) because as a 2D animation, it is HAND DRAWN. I love how this group of young animators instantly understood the connection. Makers, and animators, always bring extra love!
A bit about this “not-studio”: is a “not-studio” founded by eight animation majors looking to create their own experience in the industry. After studying animation at SVA and CalArts and working individually with independent artists and studios like Plymptoons, DreamWorks, MAKE, and Paper Brain Productions, the artists at KnottaStudio firmly believe that animation is a collaborative sport where each step of the pipeline and its artists intertwine— like a knot!. KnottaStudio’s collaboration with m.a.b.e.l is their second project and first dip into advertisement; They’ve previously made the short film “Movie Night,” and are now working on “Forget Me (K)not” for the 2026 Within The Frame anthology.
