With Father's Day fast approaching, we are getting a number of requests for Porsche Unexpected. The book has been so well-received that we are out of inventory and have none available for sale. But fear not! You can still order the book from my co-publisher www.RoadScholars.com. They will be happy to fill your request.

Believe it or not, I have joined the 19th Century by becoming active on Instagram! I intend to regularly post images of the projects we are currently working on and some interesting images from the archive. If you would like to stop by and take a peek, it would make my social media consultant happy.

To truly appreciate the importance of the 1934 Bugatti Type 59’s Best of Show at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance you should read Dr Simeone’s “manifesto” on the topic, The Stewardship of Historically Important Automobiles. In this title, he brings in other automotive luminaries to discuss the importance of preserving the originality of the world’s most important cars. The authors include, among others, Miles Collier, Evan Ide, Mark Gessler, Ed Gilbertson, Leigh Keno and Leslie Keno. For purchase visit CoachbuiltPress.com or SimeoneMuseum.org

It was an exciting and historic day at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where for the first time in the event's prestigious history and unrestored "preservation" car earned Best of Show honors. The historically important 1934 Bugatti Type 59 is featured in a new book to be released in Paris at Retromobile.

Here I am presenting my award to the "custodian" who brought the car all the way from Switzerland. The other views are from our studio session from this past March.

Yes, it's August in Monterey, CA which means lots of car events in Carmel, Pebble Beach, Carmel Valley and Pacific Grove. For the past 15 years, I have been exhibited at Winfield Gallery with my automotive-themed photographs. This year I am joined by artist David Wiener who is showing his abstract interpretations of the same cars that I will hang. This has been great fun for David and me to present at Winfield. Please stop in to see our efforts for the next two weeks. Winfield Gallery is on Dolores between Ocean and 7th.

Today is a special day, 50 years in the making. It was in early June, 1974 that I graduated college and set out on my own. I did not really know anybody, never had a job as an assistant and had no idea as to what I was getting myself into. How in God's name I lasted this long is anybody's guess. When I started, there was no real future being considered, I was just trying to get to the next assignment.

After a few years, I found other photographers would tell me that things were easier for me than it was for them. Because of my reputation, I had an easier time getting the better assignments. I did not know what they meant. I had to work my ass off to get everything I got. If others thought that my creative talent was unmatched, they were totally mistaken. My super-power was my determination - my desire to never be outworked. I never stopped trying to be better and to do better work. That is still my secret after 50 years and will be my advantage over the next 50 years.
