Growing Home Growing Home is a project to turn vacant lots into organic food-producing community gardens in Phila Tell City Council to pass the Land Bank Bill NOW !!

One of the most important projects we are working on is passing the Philadelphia Land Bank Bill #130156. Vacant property and the blight it causes is harming our neighborhoods and costing the city, school district, residents and businesses tens of millions of dollars each year. Available land should be one of a community's greatest assets but it is being left to blight communities because of a brok

en vacant land management system. Ownership of over 10,000 properties are shared by four agencies, each with a long and confusing sales/acquisition procedure. As a result, Philadelphia public agencies sell little more than 1% of their properties each year, equivalent to a virtual standstill in the vacant land department. A land bank will remove blight by making it faster, easier and cheaper for neighbors, builders, community groups and investors to return vacant property back to productive reuse. At the same time, a land bank will make it harder for speculators to gain ownership of vacant land, potentially slowing gentrification in some areas and saving existing communities.
