September 11, 1777 - The Battle of Brandywine. September was an active month for battles during the entire course of the American Revolution. One of the more substantial for the month is the Battle of Brandywine in modern day Chadds Ford Township, as part of the Philadelphia Campaign.
The result was a crushing defeat for Washington and his forces, whose army may have been entirely decimated if not for a lack of mounted calvary. The British would capture Philadelphia two weeks later on September 26th.
