More compensated nut madness. On this one the low E was so far off, look how far I had to shorten the string.

Nice 1963 Fender Jaguar. Plays beautifully and sounds amazing!
Body, neck and headstock have been refinished. Tuners are reissue kluson, bridge is a mastery, bottom pots and jack are newer, top switch was replaced. Pickguard is definitely older but it’s unclear if it’s original.
Frets were replaced with bigger frets and are in excellent shape. Case is period correct. Pickguard screws are newer.
Everything else appears to be original. Refin is excellent and very true to an original. Pro setup. No cracks, breaks, routes, fills or repairs that I can see. Weighs 7.8lbs. Neck is medium thickness, not thin. Gloss finish on neck, not worn to the wood. Straight neck, working truss rod. Beautiful player and looker. Ready for the stage! $5200

More shots of the original DiPinto guitar- the Quark: a 10 string electric mandocello. I created it for my first band called Oh Mighty Isis that also featured my wife Sophy on drums and Connie Bash on bass. You can see her playing her Quark bass in frame 2. I made them out of oak tongue and grove floor boards and radio shack parts back in the early 90’s.

For those who’d like to know more about Oh Mighty Isis, I just created a bandcamp because I realized that the music didn’t exist anywhere on the internet until now. Hit the link in bio and enjoy all the lo-fi, gritty, indie-rock 10 string goodness!
Fans of Pavement, Superchunk, Shonen Knife, Beat Happening, Love Child, Sebadoh, Sonic Youth and Dinosaur will dig

with his DiPinto Satellite reissue and his red sparkle and white Galaxie Deluxe.
We are currently working together on a 3rd DiPinto for him. It’s the blue Galaxie husk in slide 3 and it’s slowly taking shape. It has blue layered binding with silver glitter flakes. The guard will be silver glitter with customized pickup covers loaded with cool gold glitter foil. You can see the white covers in the jig before the tops are hand routed. Then the gold material is installed.
Tone and playability not forgotten of course. All DiPintos are handwired here in Philly with CTS pots, Switchcraft jacks and our special red/white rocker switches. And a fret level and dress is the (very labor intensive) icing on the cake. Shut your eyes and it’s all feel and tone. Open them again and your on-stage look is off-the-hook interplanetary!
More to come on that blue one.

Here’s that ‘58 Rickenbacker 450 Combo that I posted a few back. It’s owned by . I I was tasked with rebuilding it to accommodate a new gold anodized guard. The pickup holes in the guard did not line up with the routes that were already there so I got busy with my router, adding to a long history of routed mods. I have no problem with this as long as the end result is usable and someone enjoys playing it.
Making pickup placement line up with strings that are not on the guitar yet is not easy. Especially when the bridge and tailpiece have a theoretical placement. Once I had some strings one it I was able to get a sense of where the pole pieces need to line up. Then guard also needed to be in place to give me the lateral placement. Slow and tedious but not impossible.
I also had to rewire it and in doing so I found that the neck P90 had 3 leads. One ground and two hots, each rating at a different output. This is a proper example of a “tapped” coil. A “split” coil is when you change from humbucker to single (but I often use the terms interchangeably so I’m definitely part of the problem with the confusion in that). A push/pull in the tone pot can change the winding from 6.5k to 8.5k. It’s subtle but you can hear it get a little darker at 8.5k.
After I strung it up I had a ball rockin’ out on it. Fun project and great guitar!

Some shots from 1995 of me with the first guitar I ever made for myself: “the Quark”. It was a 10 string mandocello with five courses tuned C-E. It was made from extra oak floor boards from when my dad was putting down a hardwood floor in his kitchen. I had no idea what I was doing when I made it but it played and sounded great when I strung it up, and it became that catalyst that started DiPinto Guitars
The next 2 are of Rich Fravel in the band Latimer playing the first Satellite which was the 3rd guitar I ever made. Later that year I would make Rich the first “production run” DiPinto. The first run consisting of 4 handmade Satellites.
These shots were taken at the Khyber Pass in Philadelphia around the corner from our first shop. You can see some cool gear on stage too including my Baldwin Professional amp (made famous by W***y Nelson) and Rich’s Hywatt 1/2 stack. Also behind me is the first Mach 4 just leaning against the wall with no case🤦. Next to that is a 60’s lefty Kent guitar.
The Satellite has now been reissued with its cool triangular inlay and Mylar control plates. They are $1450 with a hard case!
(I don’t think we were opening for Polvo that night but they probably played the Khyber that week or something.)

Wild 4 pickup stereo Galaxie with electronics envisioned by !! With my wiring scheme any pickup can be assigned to either of the two outputs, or both. Each output also has a volume and tone. The is a JM style and sounds sweet! The 3 rails are Dimarzios and allow the player to assign pairs of strings to different outputs.

Working on an old ‘59 Les Paul Jr for a customer. The bridge has tilted just enough to cause a sitar sound at the high E. Since this guitar has already been changed a bit, we’ve decided to just upgrade the bridge with a wraparound that has a peek for each string so the break angle is more severe.
The customer said he paid $400 many decades ago and the body was painted blue when he bought it. He slowly chipped off all the paint to reveal this great original finish with the perfect amount of wear and patina. You can still see some of blue paint down in the crevasses. Funny how the original owner wanted to hide this road-worn look. I’d personally pay more for one that looked like this than a mint one!
