In a world that constantly pushes production, telling us to toughen up, let’s instead celebrate holding space to surrender to our softness and be gental with ourselves, each other and the way move in our lives. 💗🌹✨☺️🎤

Us here Palabras Bilingual Bookstore had a blast in Schaumburg @ children’s institute hosted by American Booksellers Assoc. & exploring the lovely city of Chicago.

We saw authors we love, explored bookstores, the sights sounds & tastes of Chicago, saw the largest convening of Pokémon go in Schaumburg & we even got a parking ticket like a real deal Chicagoan!

It was a blast! But we’re back AND OPEN for the “holiday” weekend so if you’re feeling like chilling in a cool space with us and enjoying the return of our salted plum soda! Come on over! 🥤 ☺️ 📚 🤓 💗

New Suns Book Club: Fiction & Nonfiction For A Liberated World

Books are powerful tools to help us dismantle, reimagine, and recreate the world that is possible and necessary, one not defined by white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism, but defined by our connection to each other and the place we inhabit.

That is the intention of this book club, to be a piece of that collective effort through featuring and discussing imaginative fiction to create our wildest dreams, as well as fiction and nonfiction that puts on display and/or unpacks the issues which our communities must address to move towards a liberated world.

We switch between fiction and non-fiction each month and meet at noon at Palabras on the last Saturday of each month to discuss it..

Books for the next 3 months:
Go Tell It On The Mountain by James Baldwin
Medicine River By Mary Annette Pember
The Deep By Rivers Solomon

Join us for the launch of the MERCURY IN REGGAETÓN book tour. Poet and rapper W***y Palomo will perform poems and raps from his new poetry collection, followed by a conversation with long-time friend and fiction writer Gionni Ponce.

Flanked by catastrophic headlines and somehow worse breakups, MERCURY IN REGGAETÓN indulges in sobs and perreo before facing impending doom and apocalypse. A marriage between hip-hop and the line break, between the ghazal and dembow, Palomo recounts love in a time of dystopia and resistance in a time of heartbreak. Published in a bilingual edition translated by Josué Andrés Moz.

Join us for a reading with the author of Healer of The Water Monster, Brian Lee Young, reading from his latest novel, Shards of Silence.

In his first YA novel, award-winning author Brian Lee Young (Diné) bridges the generational divide between a Navajo teen at an elite prep school and his great-grandmother’s experience at a federal boarding school for Indigenous students. The book is an eye-opening call for community healing and a profound coming-of-age story.
