A client brought this in for his granddaughter who is almost in a 3\4 size. I guess like me he wants to see this violin play a little while longer. Ribs have become elongated so they will need to be trimmed, some of the furring strips have come loose but they weren't put on very well to begin with. I think things like this are worth saving. I promise that I will really try and remember to post finished pics in a few days.

I turned this on my mini lathe out of a brass plumbing piece. Fabrication is such a big part of luthiere its wood into jigs, metal into retainer rings, printed parts into forms from scans... next time im gonna make rings out of 6k braided CF tow in CA and also in epoxy. the nerdiness doesn't end. Pretty fun.

What was broken is now whole again. This bow came in and suffered a tragic blow to the front center line of the head and was deemed irreparable. A bit of missing wood and crumpled wood as challenges. Got it back together employed a little tailored wood and spline this will play for a few more generations!

Remember, hide glue isn't meant to be permanent. In fact, it is one of the great magic treats in life, its bond is stronger than the wood, but is sensitive enough to water that it is reversible across decades and centuries. Eventually it pulverisies itself and releases everything.

It is so easy to see the loveliness in the world around you and still feel the gravitational waves of the past and how it spoils as illness spoils a tree. Slowly. When I spend a minute breathing and looking around I see all the calm and beautiful tiny thing thats create my world an I feel so humbled and quietly happy that I ended up here.

But a lot had to pass away and end for this to be. Many futures that will never be so that this tiny moment could have the space to live. I have grieved a lot lately. For friends, loved ones, family, and the once upon a times that will never be. For all that loss and pain I abide and life abides in all of us that carry on. Just like the tree, life is uncertain with or without illness, but spend everyday in the sunlight, washed over by winds soft and harsh. I love you all, thanks for stopping by.
