Late 19th-early 20th century diablerie. Diableries were thinly veiled French political statements released in stereoview form and depicted life in Hell. This one is a not one of the originals on tissue paper but it is still an antique piece. This diablerie has been in my personal collection for 15 years but it’s time for someone else to enjoy it. Has age related wear. $65

Early 1900s postcard of missing link sideshow performer Gondio. “Pinheads” were a popular attraction in the circus sideshows of the 19th and early 20th century, but in reality these poor souls were suffering from microcephaly, which is a neurological birth defect where a baby’s head is significantly smaller than expected. This usually indicates abnormal brain development and is caused by genetic disorders, infections during pregnancy, or prenatal exposure to toxins. Symptoms may include intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, and seizures, and unfortunately a poor prognosis for typical brain function. Afflicted people were often presented in the sideshow as Aztec children, missing links, inhabitants from exotic sounding lands, or from outer space. This is one of the sadder and more exploitative acts from the golden age of sideshow without a doubt, presented here for its historical relevancy. Rare card, some age related wear. $100
